EDIT It's quite funny you say that considering there's people on benefits who pop them out like rabbits in order to get more money.

Well, I don't think anyone with any degree of responsibility about them would describe the 'having more kids to get more benefit money' stuff as a good thing. Unfortunately if we say we as a society aren't prepared to allow children to live in poverty (which I hope we aren't), some people are going to abuse the system. Even if we impose a limit, some people are going to call the bluff - have one kid more than the limit and say 'OK, what are you going to do now?'

What about the foster parents who do it for the cash rather than love of children?

If we assume fostering is by definition better for children than living in an orphanage, then it's probably a necessary evil. At least in that case society has some control, when someone who already has X foster children applies to foster more, the authorities can just say no. It's not like we're forcibly terminating someone's pregnancy.

IMO you should only get benefits (of any sort) calculated for two (maybe three) children. It's not the tax payers job to fund a huge family.

Many people want a large family and benefits never feature in their calculation.

And they're most welcom to have a large family if that's what they want. I just don't think the tax payer should have to pay out for all of them, whether it's child allowance, tex credits, large council houses etc.

I think housing benefit will be capped anyway and the big families that I know do not live in big houses. That might be a Tory myth. There was a program about large families on the TV last year and none were on benefits IIRC, and people do not make a fortune on child benefit. I have no problems with child benefit.

Totally agree. However currently, my taxes pay for other people's children, including people who earn way more than me. it's hardly fair, is it?

She may have lied about her circumstances to get IVF. It does seem wrong.

It's a question I ask myself on a near daily basis. Would come in handy for shooting out the tires of twattish motorists I encounter on my way to work.
