Google search, especially image search is getting worse and worse. Just looked up "slaughter line biological inspection" and there wasn't one relevant result. Most were images of the American civil war and Warhammer or Gamer's Workshop... What they have to do with biological inspections on a slaughter line is beyond me.

I agree, there's definitely a crap mixture of relevance, popularity and here's what we want you to see at the moment.

Dave, try the term abattoir. It might narrow the search down to animal slaughtering at least.

Where's the video then?

I'll have a look at getting it online tomorrow. Anyone know of any alternatives to YouTube, that are free, of course!

Running a marathon, or a more accurately the training required to be in good enough shape to run a marathon, has a beneficial effect. So yes, they're doing it for charity but they also get something out of it.

Yes, you might lift your cardio health somewhat in training for a marathon. Personally, think that running a marathon is a far bigger commitment with your time and health (I know a number of people that run half marathons or similar distances and they seem to collect injuries on a monthly basis) than spending ten minutes doing something entirely harmless on video is.

In the case of this bucket challenge thing it seems to me you pour a bucket of ice cold water over yourself, then give some money to charity. I agree with Kelly Cates the sports presenter, who when nominated said something like "I'll happily give the money to the charity, but what does me getting wet actually gain anyone?" It's long since lost it's novelty now world+dog are doing it and I don't think it has any 'emotional arm twisting' now the backlash has kind of started either.

What it gains is a degree of publicity to the charity, and you know, people might enjoy watching it.
You will, you won't. Whatever. If it's got people thinking about a cause they'd previously been unaware of and hopefully dropped some cash on a charity, then job done.

Do we feel the same way about Movember? People shaving their heads for Macmillan? Wearing grey for brain cancer awareness? Institutional 'Jeans for Genes' days? Workplace Comic Relief shenanigans?
The Ice Bucket thing is, as far as I see it, a bit of fun to raise some cash. This week feels like the week it's crossed the Atlantic, and it's interesting to see people doing it for other charities.

Thanks Jon, just signed up but I'll have to wait until tomorrow to upload it as the video is stored on the wife's mobile, which is downstairs.

Some people will enjoy watching pretty much anything. That of itself proves nothing.

Has it actually done that though? Hasn't the story now become your basic everyday 'gawk at celebrities' thing? At this point, are people really thinking 'Hmm. this is for a charity that is working to cure an awful illness, I'll have to go find out about that' or 'OMGLolz, look how Patrick Stewart has done the challenge'. It seems to me the message is being lost. At least, IMO. I really don't think most of the people watching the videos at this point are thinking very much about muscular dystrophy at all, to be honest with you.

I've actually found a few people I know have gotten rather passive aggressive about Movember. It became very much more a case of 'why aren't you doing it?' than 'well done for doing it'. I don't think people should be browbeaten into charitable acts. And comic relief happens for one day every, what, two years and is a long-standing tradition in the UK. Hardly comparable to the Ice Bucket Challenge.

Anything that raises money for charity is a good thing. But that doesn't mean it's beyond analysis. The empirically good act is the giving the money part of it, surely?

It takes you a day to go downstairs and back? That's some mighty long staircase you have! :-D

Ha ha ha. No, I was in bed, watching telly and couldn't be bothered going downstairs just to get her mobile, which is currently updating the firmware. I'll upload it when the phone is updated and when I get a minute.

I'm increasingly of the opinion that we should ban smoking in parks... A perfect day has been disturbed more than twice recently by lingering tobacco smoke. It's really starting to get on my tits.

Could be worse. We could be pre smoking ban. Going out used to suck back then.

Who says they all have to be invited? The only rules are your own.

We only invited a tiny fraction of my wife's forty four cousins to our wedding.
