There's no way I'm getting drunk. Do you have any idea how expensive alcohol is in Norway?

So, with the change of the T&Cs for Facebook, which are illegal in Germany, the girls announced today that they both deleted their accounts last night. It has been big news here, that, even though it is illegal, Facebook are still going ahead with the changes. Both decided on their own to delete, they weren't prompted by their mother, who finds Facebook bad anyway.

It's only a matter of time before people realise it's become poisonousness in just about every way.

No. Too far from the office to walk.

Interesting - just found out what you're on about. I logged in using my Facebook password. I then tried to deactivate my account using that same password but it won't let me.

[Edit] Fixed - I changed the password. Hanlon's Razor, Hanlon's Razor, Hanlon's Razor, Hanlon's Razor, Hanlon's Razor...

Sorry but I've been under a rock for weeks

Several things. They have decided to change the T&Cs without offering an opt-in, which is illegal under German law. They cannot change the terms on their own, they have to get the consent of the user, otherwise it is not binding.

The data protection features for new features will be turned off by default.

They will use the geo locationing on smartphones to push local adverts (E.g. restaurants in the area) and updates from friends in the area. If you don't want this, you will have to turn of the GPS on the smartphone, although most also use a less accurate geolocation through Wi-Fi access points in the area.

Thirdly they have said that they will track movements of users outside of Facebook and give that to third parties to allow them to target advertising at you. For example, if you buy a pair of sports shoes online, they could start offering you sports courses, etc. or if you are looking at holiday destinations, they will start offering you holiday bookings to those destinations.

They now own all data generated by users.

A lot of radio and TV shows have been urging users to delete their accounts and Facebook have received a lot of bad press over here - especially as they keep arguing that doing business in Germany doesn't subject them to German law, because, you know, we are American!

I disabled the mobile app on my phone ages ago. It wanted far too many unnecessary permissions.
