Table says they do. 'Deserve' has nothing to do with it. It's football, not ice skating.

Isn't Heskey's middle name 'Ivanhoe'? How about that?

Why are people so down on Heskey?
I thought he did exactly what was needed when he came on yesterday, first touch was a perfect pass and he played the throughball for our only other goal in the tournament against the US.
Who else would be in? Bent? He's been useless at International level.

Spain, Italy and Germany have had rubbish matches, rubbish because they lost and Italy because of their draws. It's the last 16, different kettle of fish all together. I wish people and the media would keep things in perspective. Edit: Yesterday we beat Slovenia (FIFA rank 25). Spain lost to Switzerland in the 1st round (FIFA rank 24). Germany lost to Serbia (FIFA rank 15) and Italy drew with New Zealand (FIFA rank 78). Perspective! | | | | |
I have one. I stated it! I'm not influenced by the media on this. I don't watch the news, or any commentary, just some football. Rubbish might have been slight exaggerated, but they certainly haven't played world class football. More to the point, they haven't appeared to be hungry enough to progress. They've been lazy, complacent and slow at various points. Granted this match was an improvement. I'm not a patriot and I don't care who wins. I don't support my country. I support earnest, entertaining, well played football. The USA wipe the floor with us on that front in every match thus far and England play one good game then progress. It's [LIFTED] frankly.

IIRC correctly we had more chances in our match with the US and they only scored due to a goalkeeping error. TBH all of the teams so far have had their flaws. I admit, we've not been playing great but then so long as the improvement continues hopefully our qualifying flair will return.

Italy go behind. Slovakia 1-0 Italy. As results stand, they would be bottom of the group. And people are complaining about England.

That's the thing with England, it's all about goals and progression. They may have had more chances, but they were complacent and appeared exhausted by midway through the 2nd half. The US kept up the pace and pressure for the duration. They were quicker than England, played harder and wanted it more. So their goal was England's fault was it? Oh well it must be a crap goal then All England fans care about is progression. When England play crap and lose, it's all negativity. Everybody moans about Fabio's choices (like they know better of course) and this person was [LIFTED] and that person was [LIFTED] etc. When England play crap and draw there's plenty of criticism to go around but everybody's just happy about the point. When they play crap and win, nobody cares. There's no criticism or negativity because everybody's happy. I just don't buy into it. I'd like to see sport where it's about the level of skill and determination to win. And everybody plays their heart out for the whole thing. Other teams have offered that, England haven't.

Well I'm English, I'm an England fan, and I can confirm that you are talking b0llocks there. They did yesterday. Is it not best to look at the last game and the games ahead than hark on about history, be it about draws or 1966? I prefer to see good football but good football is nothing without a win. Just ask Spain. Edit: It's not about progression at any costs. I'm much happier about facing Germany than Ghana purely from the potential spectacle of it all.

Yup. Another record? First World Cup where the host nation doesn't past the group stage and it looks like the first one where the holders don't reach the final 16.

I hope the Italians don't go through.
I know other teams have been guilty of it but Italy, in every game, have rolled about acting like they've been shot trying to get players sent off.
