TBH those brands have just gone over my head. I would love to have a proper AV setup but when OH balked at paying £2k for a curved 55" screen that Harrod's rep was demonstrating, I knew it's gonna be a good while before I'll be able to enjoy something like that

KEF is the only one you might have heard of from a hifi perspective, as they're British and have been around a long time. Steinway you might have heard of as they are really quite famous for their grand pianos. Electrocompaniet are a Swedish company, and Pathos are Italian and make lovely valve gear. If your other half thinks £2k is too much for a 55" TV, she'd have probably had a fit at the £12k Paths / KEF system I heard there, and quite possibly died at the £160k Electrocompaniet / KEF system

I've got a relative near Ipswich who sells high end hi-fi ( Signals if you're interested). It's always quite an experience going to visit him. I'm always amazed by the amount of money some people are willing to spend just in cables let alone the actual bits to plug it into. Last time I saw him he'd just done a hi-fi event somewhere and they'd managed to blow up a £100k set of speakers with the 1812 Overture IIRC

Yeah I remember Working with a guy probably 10 years plus ago who used to pay crazy money for speaker cables as in hundreds of pounds.

I got another cheque from HMRC. Can't wait for them to try and claim back £1400 in a few months :s

Is Krispy Kreme still cooking in the basement? Step away from the curved screens. I suspect it's the next home 3D.

+1 on the curved screens. The only thing I've seen worth considering IMO is the OLED sets and/or 4K. And I have quite a few doubts about 4K.

4k is absolutely going to happen, the curved screen thing is a bit of a gimmick. While I've got my future gazing hat on, I'll predict a smattering of displays for home computer use, but they're no use for anything that requires accurate rendering or things like straight lines.

Nope not that I saw. I know I know. I thought that too. It was LG's OLED screen 55". Can't recall if it was 4K or not.

I learnt piano on a Steinway, my great great aunt was a pianist and her daughter had played in concerts in the 50s, but she died relatively young. I had the privilege of learning from the Aunt, although I wasn't that talented, so I didn't get very far. The Steinway upright was a very nice piano though.

That sort of crap is one of my brothers favourite 'make you feel old' tricks. He usually points out when films are now closer to the moon landings than the present day.

I realised this week I have CDs that are old enough to vote. Should we allow inanimate objects to decide on who our government is.

My car is still in the garage - was finished yesterday, but my boss made me work until long after the garage closed. So I got to take the company Skoda Superb home.
It is amazing, the Citroen C3 is a much smaller car, but I found the Skoda less comfortable and it felt very cramped - the C3 has one of those panorama windscreens that reaches back over your head.

Oh my God.
TFI Friday is on TV. It's like I'm back doing my A-levels again.
