Van hire on Friday, followed by a mattress to go on the new bed in the new house

Moving house is expensive

Prior to my last move it cost me more than £500 to move a few hundred yards. After that experience I cheated and used a porters trolley and moved most of it myself at night For the last few big items I did it with a man and a van for £50. Huge reduction in cost. It cost me £50 for the trolley but I still have it and can move again for next to nothing.

That is okay if you are only moving a couple of doors away, not so good if you are moving from one town to another or even one suburb to another. My fiancé has a large family and we moved ourselves last time. About 15 people, 4 cars and a big trailer, which the oldest brother can borrow, so it only cost us bread rolls and coffee.

Bought an Epson WF5320DWF yesterday, it replaced a 10 year old Photosmart, because it is getting hard to get cartridges for it and they cost 50% more than the XL cartridges for the new Epson.

Yes moving local makes a huge difference in potential costs.

Did you look at continuous ink systems?

The furthest I've moved (a few times) is 50 miles.
I hired a transit van for the day and made a few return trips, with a friend to help with the lifting.
Job done.

The best move did was when I was re-located by work – so got the full relocation package

The movers provided the boxes, I packed them, and then they moved them out of the old house, into storage and then my new house and I didn’t need to lift a finger (and I had about 20+ boxes of books that were all going into the loft conversion at the new house)

The next move my parents make will be their 13th.
Moved from Hertfordshire to near Glasgow, then from there to Devon.
I've moved at least 6 times.

My parents have moved 6 times but most of that was when my dad was in the RAF. Since then it was only 3 times and that included a short stay with my grandparents when they moved to this area more than 45 years ago.

The last 2 moves have cost between 2,500€ and 3,500€. Moving from the UK to south Germany, then from south Germany to north Germany.

It is clearly one of those hidden costs that many do not consider much of the time. It can bite into any savings if you are forced to move.

Looking at this on my new Dell UltraSharp U2413.

Colours are looking a little different from my previous display (NEC MultiSync LCD 2090UXi) but that was to be expected. Also had to turn the brightness down a bit to avoid searing my retinas.
Will get around to profiling this display in a bit. In the mean time I'll just be enjoying the old school 1920 x 1200 real estate.

Yeah, I've got dual Wortmann 24" displays at work, both Full HD. :( It is a business monitor not a [LIFTED] TV! GRRRR!

Still, should be getting the 27" iMac soon, my boss has bought himself a rMBP !3" and I should work on some Keynote presentations for him (I currently seem to be doing nothing but PowerPoint animations).

Got one of these on Wednesday. Packs down really nicely and fits both my 13" MacBook and my colleagues 15" thing well. Helps to prop the laptop up for slightly prolonged use, raising the screen to a more comfortable level and angling the keyboard for more comfort. Definitely not a replacement for proper set up, but a great portable bit of kit.
