I haven't measured yet (but I will) it's been coming down here (Tamworth area) since 08:30 and fairly steadily. I left Notts at 11am to drive home and was doing alright until the A road which is fairly treacherous, the B road into the village was causing all sorts of difficulty with trucks and cars getting stuck and then we slid off the road onto the verge about half a mile from home. I didn't want to forward/back him any more for fear of ending up in the ditch so I parked up and walked home. Not venturing out again today except on foot!!

Here is Nottingham it's been snowing in most half-hearted manner for the last hour and now it has stopped.
The council gritted half my street this morning so the ice on it finally turning into a nasty muddy slush.

Well, apparently what we've got further west is heading for you, I work in Notts and took advantage of the chance to leave early. I got my first snow on the edge of Kegworth and it's been snowing in my life ever since We have at least rescued Horace, taken warm porridge out to the poultry, re-filled all the wild bird feeders, shovelled and gritted the paths and are now enjoying a nice warm up with a cuppa!

Surgery has been shut early. I was sent home about 1230 and only just got in 10 mins ago. A 40 min journey took 2 hours. If it had just been everyone travelling slowly, it'd have taken an hour. What made it worse was all the idiots on the road. One guy entered a box junction at a traffic light controlled crossroads and sat there in a queue for at least 10 mins. People couldn't cross the junction because he was blocking it. Similar issues elsewhere. One pickup truck tried to cut a corner by mounting a kerb but ended up smacking his front wheel into the kerb.
Not once did I skid, nor did I use brakes for braking (only when I'd stopped). Engine braking and forward planning meant it was easier. The problem was anticipating what idiots on the road were doing, given that they didn't bother indicating, had headlights on but they were covered in snow so useless, or tried to use power to manouevre and end up skidding everywhere.
*actually I did skid but this was as I was reversing into my garage where the driveway had 3-4" of snow. It was a slight skid.

Well got home - not to bad maybe an extra 1/2 hr onto my journey but lots of the trains from Paddington going West were starting to be cancelled
Used the 4x4 and Down Hill assist on the car for the 1st time and both worked well
About 3 - 4 inches here near Reading

About 3 inches here in Northampton. We got sent home early - about 3.50pm and it took me 1hr to get home - normally takes me about 25mins.
Again would have got home quicker were it not getting stuck behind the rear-wheel drive cars trying to slide their way along.
Monday could be interesting.

Cardiff got absolutely plastered overnight. I made a little snowman in my break.
Weren't many people in the office at all today, they managed to get 4 floors worth of people into two offices, with room to spare.
They closed the building at 5, so I got to finish 90 minutes early.
I'm supposed to be working tomorrow, but I think they're nuts if they open the building.

Seriously BBC? A News special, on BBC 1, because of a bit of snow? Seriously?

Well, we all labour under the false impression that snow is unusual for the UK. Despite it snowing almost every year I can remember somewhere here, generally following the pattern of more/worse up north, rarer/milder down south.

Started again about half an hour after I posted. Still nothing really serious. It's settled in my street and the next few surrounding because the last lot still hadn't melted. Everywhere else it's just wet. However there's more expected overnight and it's very cold. I have an outdoor band photo-shoot tomorrow. We'll probably need a hot alcohol-infused beverage to keep us going...

Was surprised at that myself, they're trying far too hard to gauge the public mood these days. That said, it probably got really good ratings

Well white christmases are rare only 4 in the last century down south but more up north. So parts of the country should be better prepared. It has snowed here and settled.

The date the snow arrives shouldn't matter - the fact is that for about 3 months of the year, snow is quite likely and has been for hundreds of years. We're not in the Caribbean or something.
