the hotels for our trip to Egypt are booked
Oohh Egypt.
I have a friend in Egypt I'd love to go and see. What airline are you travelling with? Did they offer competitive prices? Are you flying standard or business class?
Is the flight direct from London?

Gah, so many questions! Tell me to bugger off if you want. (8+)

Erm, we went with lastminute.com and got our flights for £270 each, from london Heathrow flying out with Alitalia and back with Air France. We leave London at 16:25, change in Rome (Fiumicino) and arrive in Cairo at 02:20 the next day. On the way back we leave Cairo at 01:40, change in Paris and arrive back in London at 07:50. We're flying cattle class, which is fine for us.

Any more questions? :D We booked our accommodation with hostelbookers.com, our hotels are costing us no more than 11€ per night each, and in Luxor we're paying 0.61€ each per night, with private double ensuite rooms. We're planning to take the train (1st class is about £4 each) from Cario to Luxor after 6 days, then from Luxor on to Aswan after another 6 days, and then with 6 more days in and around Aswan we'll take the train all the way back up to Cairo again to get our flight home. The day train will cost about £11 each (1st class again.)

Otherwise, that's all the planning we've done, we haven't organised an itinerary beyond saying what we'd like to see, so the rest is a magical mystery tour

Hey, that's alright isn't it?
I may be going to Egypt sooner than I thought.
That was incredibly helpful, thanks Zippy.

No Worries, anytime  The thing that we found really useful was that lastminute.com have a ticky box to check all the flights on a given route +/- 3 days, and it brings up a grid of fares so you can see where the cheapest options are and possibly change your plans accordingly, that's how we ended up going out for 3 weeks, we chose our planned trip dates, then checked the grid and added a couple of days to each end of our trip to get the best fare.

Also you should know that most airlines release their cheap flights on a Wednesday, and also most airlines offer a discount if your trip involves a saturday night stay.

Heather, just set up your camera on the tripod in a busy place and click away with the remote shutter release. You know it makes sense :D

It's just not that easy.

1. I live down a cul de sac. Passing traffic is the postman, and he's not a stranger.
2. I may live on the outskirts of Chatham, within spitting distance of two motorways, but it's actually very quiet here.
3. Busy places would mean at least a 15-minute journey, finding somewhere to park, and - particularly today - getting very wet.

I'm unlikely to step outside my front door today, due to the weather. I came up with a cunning plan yesterday, but it involves some preparation - should've thought of it before, but hey, I've been a bit busy sorting out life this November.

So, I'm really stuck. Sorry. I don't like being negative about the compo, but I have not had time or inspiration for this one. I'm actually annoyed by that. :(

You're just struggling for inspiration so take a photo of people on the telly and title it 'Far Away'. :D

Had the morning from hell. Turns out the Americans have been playing.

It's got better now, just got a customer desperate to place an order. Should be about £23k

Well done you! How did you manage that in the middle of a recession?

Was actually £30k in the end. Some customers haven't taken a hit & are expanding. Let's just say they're a big publishing company.

Morning all. So I'm the only person in the office today.
This could go one of two ways, although I'm not going to do anything until I've finished my coffee then had another one.

You can't leave us in the lurch like that. What are the two ways?

Some of us are a bit hungover in the office this morning. I found a nearly empty half bottle of whisky this morning. Of course it was nothing to do with me.

One more day of work tomorrow then I have Friday off - yay!

Have a good one all.

Carolyn

It's either going to be dead or stupidly busy (and I've got no helpdesk or sales team to buffer my calls)

It was a half bottle that's nearly empty not a big bottle that's empty. If we'd drunk a big bottle there's no way I would've surfaced this morning. Damn now even I'm getting confused.

Oh! So the bottle when full contains the same amount of goodliness as a normal-sized bottle when half full. Craziness!
