Yes but will be topped when they bury her properly. Unfortunately it might be a state funeral.

Exactly why she should not get a state funeral. Dividing the country is a perfect reason why she should be excluded from a state funeral, same applies to every politician.

West Wing doesn't do it for me but could you perhaps look up what season episode that was? I like Frasier but there's a lot of average stuff to wade through to get the really hilarious stuff

Unlike many here, I'm not a Maggie hater. But even I can't see why she should have a state funeral. It's not like she died while in office. It would just set a president for the state to pay huge sums for former PM's. I'm sure furher Blair would want the same fanfare if she got it.

There is some history of us giving state funerals to prime Ministers who were in office while the country was at war. Which of course Thatcher and Blair both qualify for. However in the past 'war' generally meant a significant portion of the country's young male population heading off to give Johnny Foreigner a good shoeing and those left behind enduring rationing and having their frying pans confiscated and turned into tanks. Not the kind of limited wars we have now, which you have to say are an awful lot easier to deal with for those not being directly shot at and are a damn sight easier to be PM during. Objectively I kind of have to think Thatcher, as much as I hate her ideology, was a figure who made a significant difference to the UK economically, culturally and politically. And therefore probably deserves some level of public recognition. I can't honestly say I think Blair did the same on any of those fronts. I think history will show Blair to be a consummate politician but a pretty ineffectual leader. Jon

This is still a TV thread, right? No offence to anyone above, but I don't want to give any more thread space over to Thatcher. She's a cow and I've no time for her. I know threads go off-topic, but this one's descended in to bad taste.
