The cheapest I found was £450 the highest was £1900. I really don't think there is any maths involved other than spinning a wheel with numbers on it.

Go with a classic insurer, should get it for a song if you don't mind limiting the miles.

Any suggestions? I don't drive my car every day, so limited mileage isn't huge problem.

Insurers won't ever know how many miles you are doing on their policy anyway. All they will know is how many miles the car has done between MOTs - of course most of those miles are on a track, so they don't count as miles on the policy.

The problem you'll have is getting an insurer to accept your car is a classic. You're a member of the owners club, IIRC? Might be worth asking there, but FWIW, I'm with ClassicLine Insurance. You tell them the mileage when the policy starts, and if you renew, they'll ask again. If it's over the agreed amount, they may refuse to insure you. If you're over the agreed amount and you're involved in something nasty, then you're policy is also null and void. If you're using the car on a track, then you'll need another policy to cover track use, or guess what? It's null and void.

Then your policy could be void as you are using it for a use you haven't announced

You don't have to have insurance to go on a track though. My insurance company have never asked my mileage.

I thought most tracks asked for proof of suitable insurance before letting you out?

Yeah, but you wouldn't use your usual insurers for trackday insurance. Unless you're with the likes of Chris knott and Adrian flux. And if it's a mate's private track, they may not bother.

The cheapest quote I got was £359.98 which includes protected NCB and a courtesy car. None of the other quotes match it so I went with it. From a company called One Call. Got the quote from confused.com. Amazingly this is a few quid cheaper than last year.

No, you just won't be covered for it (you could get a seperate policy of course). If I had a big field out the back of my house and ragged my car around it every evening, do you think that would invalidate my insurance? It's the same thing. What about if you lived in the middle of nowhere and had to drive up a 10 mile track to get to your house? You might have green lane insurance for that.
