I bet it would be a different matter if rugby was beng played. (8+p
Still, you can listen to it all on a radio.
When is the archery taking place?

Rankings today, and then next week I think. Archery's a dull spectator sport, though.

was looking at the chinese london olympics ad and it shows bombs being dropped on the stadium, and the arena engulfed in flames, bit disturbing

No, I'm with him there. There's Olympics on every other BBC outlet. Cover Olympic stuff as a news event, but not to the detriment of everything else. For example, who knew 70-odd people have died in flooding in Beijing, Chile is suffering near hurricane force winds, Syrian government forces apparently have been firing on refugees at border posts... I could go on, but it's depressing enough.

The "News Channel" logo has been replaced by the five rings of doom now. Come on, seriously?

I used to enjoy being able to read a newspaper and stop before I reached the sports section so that I wouldn't read a result before I had a chance to watch the replay or results.

News at the front, sport at the back. Simple really.

These days if I want to avoid the result I can't even check a weather forecast on my regular news sites.

Now if I do a search for BBC I get several options for; news, sport, weather etc. And of course each of these sections can easily be navigated to within the chosen page. So why the need to display headlines from other sections? I can perhaps understand it from a commercial point of view, but the BBC is surely in a position not to pander to this BS.

hhmmm.. I guess it's in the eye of he beholder. Since the SKs have already broken the world record twice his morning I'd kind of liked to have seen it.

The archery competition is taking place at Lords cricket ground. Apparently the Indian Archery team were massively chuffed because now they can tell everyone they've played at the MCC :D.

With all due respect Heather, you can't demand all this stuff gets shown on national television and then state it's too depressing to even cover fully in a forum post :).

To be fair, it would probably never be covered by the BBC anyway. Not enough royal family, celebrité, or football in it.

Currently, we're watching Aljazeera for our news, with a sprinkling of Russia Today, France 24 and NHK World for balance.

The head to heads could be more interesting. Ranking rounds, especially at the highest levels, are more about not dropping points, and unless there's a camera on every archer and every boss at all times there's just no way the TV coverage can predict when or where a key moment will occur.

I see the logic. However I treat ranking rounds a lot like test cricket (ironically, given their location). You know that something interesting will probably happen at some point but it's quite unlikely you'll be able to pay attention for the whole period anyway, so you just soak it all up and rely on contextual cues to tell you something interesting IS happening and then pay attention to whatever it is. With TV of course it's easier, because you have replays. They could actually cover the whole thing with a decent set of cameras and a director who had a vague idea of what's going on.

'Scuse me Tim, I misread your request. The Archery is on at various times this weekend. It's not televised today, but the 'second phase' is on the BBC web site and red button tomorrow. It starts at 8.55AM (men's teams elimination) and then at 2.55PM (men's team final). If you have Sky/Freesat, the 8.55 Session is on Olympic channel 5, the afternoon session is on Olympic 11.

Sunday, 08.55 (Olympic 1) and 15.00 (olympic 1) for the female team competition.

Individuals are on Monday.

Sunday 2PM (Olympic 12) there's also women's clay pigeon shooting, which is also fun. We won the gold in the men's last time round, they shoot next weekend. There's no TV schedule for that yet.

The South Koreans are probably going to win most of the golds in archery but i think we stand a fair chance of a medal or two.

Updates: whoops - small mistake - its teams first, then individuals in the archery.

Jon

I met an athlete near the Olympic Park.

I asked "Are you a Pole Vaulter?"

He said "No, I'm German... and how do you know my name?"
