The last time I bought from Argos, it was a Casio digital and analogue watch, which I bought when I was at college... That must have been 1985 / 1986...

buying a casio digital watch now days will get you higher on a watch (no pun intended  ) list as they are perfect for timing devices for remote bombs.

Now they've opened an out of town Argos where I live I use it even more, mainly as I never could justify the parking costs in town for one small item. Now parking is free.

Yes parking charges can be a deal breaker for many, though have you accounted for the petrol? Would free delivery online be even cheaper?

But online requires you to know in advance what you'll need. If it's just something I need at somepoint in the future then I may get it online or next time I need enough bits from the town centre to justify the costs. Otherwise out of town centres win.

Not having a car limits my access to out of town shopping but I do find that online prices are not always the cheapest. Sometimes I have found town centre stores are cheaper than Amazon or eBay.

Same here, although at least where I live public transport is very good. "Out of Town" is quite a distance away, though!

Our out of town places are not really out of town but on the major A road and both of them are 5-15 minutes away. I'd rather use them than go to the town centre on a Saturday. Don't mind my local town (Waltham Cross) as parking is free and it's quite small but has everything I need. Enfield would be much busier and harder tro park.

Cheaper, technically yes. Quicker, hell no. It's only two miles from where I live so the petrol cost is small. Usually when I need a one off item I need it quickly too.
For example: My last Argos purchase was some electronic kitchen scales for cooking. I was mid way through making something and got fed up with the crappy dial scales my wife uses as the needle wouldn't move for ages, then would jump by 50g. I got in the car and was back home with the new scales fifteen minutes later.

Yes out of town stores can be much quicker but not everyone has a car.

Which is why there are still town centre stores.

I'm lucky in that I live close (4 miles) to the town centre but also have supermarket superstores nearby so most things can be obtained quicker than going to town.

When I was in Bournemouth I'd often go to the Castlepoint shopping centre rather than go to the town centre where I'd have to pay for parking, struggle to look for parking and then ponce around trying to find the store.
