You are Louise Mensch and I claim my five pounds. :)

looks like Leadsom has dropped out of the contest and maybe May has a free home run.

it should make for an interesting GE which i believe will follow shortly ...

That will require the Fixed Term Parliament Act that requires all terms to be five years on to be repealed. That was brought in by the Tory/LibDem coalition.

So effectively nobody gets to vote on who our Prime Minister is. That's democracy for you, although in fairness it's been true for a lot of her predecessors.

It's quite indicative that the PCP will do pretty much anything to avoid having a leadership contest, whereas the PLP seem utterly hellbent on having one (as long as they get to decide whose on the ballot paper).

In many ways it's a shame Ruth Davidson wasn't standing. Some of the humor of RD as reported by Anushka Asthana of the Guardian:
Quote:
Ruth Davidson, the Scottish Conservative leader, gave a speech to a press gallery lunch today and her jokes went down a storm. My colleague Anushka Asthana has collected some of the highlights.

Davidson mocked Andrea Leadsom.
Before politics not only was I a BBC journalist but I singlehandedly saved the British banking system during the Barings collapse ... A little known fact was that I was the original Misha the bear at the 1980 Moscow olympics, and that was the same year I won Eurovision. Which speaking as a mother ...

She explained why she did not take part in the EU referendum debate alongside Angela Eagle.
I’d had a phone call from Craig Oliver saying we want you to do the Wembley debate, Labour are putting up Angela Eagle. That is great Craig but are you absolutely sure you want two short-haired, flat shoes, shovel-faced lesbians with a northern accent?

I think he’d never been spoken to like that before as he turned into Hugh Grant and (grunts) ... Then we got Sadiq.

She mocked Labour.
Everyone else in UK politics is either resigning, getting knifed, bottling it, withdrawing, failing, declaring, or falling on their sword.

I think the mad thing in all of the last few weeks is that the last man standing is Jeremy Corbyn. Although I am pleased that the PLP is about to show how united they are by putting forward a second unity candidate against the first.

That’s the difference between our two parties - Labour is still fumbling with its flies while the Tories are enjoying their post-coital cigarette. After withdrawing our massive Johnson.

And then she mocked Leadsom again.
I didn’t say that, you can’t report that, and it would be gutter journalism of the highest order if you wrote down exactly what I’ve just said.

Never has a truer word been spoken in jest.

Anbd I agree, I'd much rather have her than May. Even though I don't vote Tory, I think she'd be a moderate voice and a breath of fresh air.

That's a typical Guardian type. She actually wants to untie Britain, so she can float it away from all those nasty Europeans with their human rights and privacy.

Theresa May set to fill key cabinet positions with female allies | Politics | The Guardian

In combative language, May claimed it did not matter whether Tony Blair, Gordon Brown or Jeremy Corbyn led the Labour party, because “when Labour prospers the country suffers”.

Oh, really?

The Beeb have a special ongoing FFS - they really are going overboard with the political shows these days. They're calling May becoming PM historic because she's the second woman to do so!

If the viewing figures indicate people are genuinely interested, then by all means, but lets not pretend it's some momentous occasion either way.

They have time to fill and nothing else to talk about.

Osborne out of the cabinet (may have resigned when offered 'lesser' job). Phil Hammond is new Chancellor. So that's Hammond and May in charge, all we need now is Clarkson...
