I disagree. XP isn't good for anything. It's a liability in terms of security and looks like something from the Tweenies.

Considering the security hole that is Flash is the fact that it is not on the iPad such a mistake? I think not.

I've heard that some steam games are dropping XP support? Seeing a friend uses his netbook for running Steam ganes and it came with XP, he'll be buggered... You can do some fancy stuff where applications remember settings and get updates. IM+ for the iPod/iPhone keeps running "in the background". Exactly. Netbooks are basically a small desktop, whereas the iPad realises that when you're sitting on the sofa, you probably don't need mass multi-tasking, not in the same way as you do when you use a desktop. The iPhone OS makes each app full screen for fracks sake, you can't do much multi-tasking there!

Hmmm, not sure about that one. The difference bewteen some multitasking and no multitasking is quite big. And can the iPad run one application much faster than a netbook can run the same application? Browser + music + pdf document + game (not a real one, something like minesweeper ) is not exactly a rare combination. What if I want to check a pdf file whilst writing an email? Closing one down to start the other would get boring very quickly. Other than that, if I had the money I'd probably buy one, I love shiny things

I was going to say that a rock can do so much more, like prop a door open... but on second thoughts, so could an iPad if you wedged it right! Maybe you could get enough of the screen poking out to browse the web too... multi-tasking with an iPad!

It won't even upload viruses into alien mainframes. This is vital for my work in the US military.

It won't play Crisis at high frame rates. So big FAIL Apple. What kind of gaming platform is this Mickey Mouse computer?

But unlike a photograph it won't prevent your missiles from launching

Maybe put a few brightly coloured Pentium stickers on it too. They always enhance the user experience. Mark

As much fun as it is, rather than slating it, can somebody actually give me a real-world use that justifies the price tag?

Why? If you think it's worth it and you want/need it you'll get it. If not you won't. If you can't think of something that justifies the price you're not going to be convinced by somebody elses opinion on why they think it's value for money. Mark
