I really feel like the theme is largely irrelevant to me. Everyone here banging on about logos and themes and I just loved the story and the characters. If this was a movie we were discussing, everyone would be saying that it wasn't the music or graphics that were important, but a good story

I don't really judge movie soundtracks simply because the "one-time" watching of a movie doesn't give enough opportunity for any particular track to sink in. Doctor Who on the other hand is a TV series which is watched regularly (i.e. over the course of multiple episodes) and as such a decent soundtrack can properly highlight/accent a show.

I draw comparisons to something like Anime where i do think that a good soundtrack and production are important to rounding off a package. For me personally, an Anime with a good story alone may still rate a high 8 or 9 in my books, but it's always been a series which has a good/great combination of all three which can either consistently score high or even receive a 10.

The main thing about the change in theme is that it is inevitably the first thing you hear and something you have to sit through before you get to the main chunk of the show. Don't get me wrong, it's not as if i'm particularly bothered by the theme, as you say it's generally about the story and characters which the newcomers do well, however that doesn't mean i don't think the new theme is worse than the old one, the same goes with the logo.

Soundtracks are a completely different ball game and contribute greatly to movies (and TV to a lesser extent). But lets take a similar movie situation in James Bond. How the Danjaq 007 looks and how the main them sounds aren't nearly as important to me as the overall aesthetic (including soundtrack and cinematography etc.) and the story and characters.

But Paul I take your point. Maybe it's more important to other people. If the ep had been rubbish, perhaps I would've spent more time looking at the opening. As it was, I was just enjoying myself far too much to care!

The BBC will release four new free Doctor Who games on PC and Mac from June.

Doctor Who: The Adventure Games will come in four episodes, and will be made available at www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho from June.

The four two-hour adventures see players take control of the Doctor and Amy as they embark on new adventures which complement the new TV series.

The interactive episodes are executive produced by Steven Moffat, Piers Wenger, Beth Willis and Anwen Aspden (BBC Wales Interactive), alongside Charles Cecil - creator of the Broken Sword series.

The games are being developed by UK studio Sumo Digital. Stories and scripts are from Phil Ford (co-writer Doctor Who 'Waters of Mars') and James Moran (Severance, Torchwood Children of Earth).

Matt Smith and Karen Gillan have been digitally recreated in-game, and have provided full voice-overs. Music has been provided by TV series' composer Murray Gold. An additional cast will portray original characters and classic enemies.

"Children don't just watch Doctor Who - they join in. They make up games, invent their monsters, create their own stories," says Steven Moffat, head writer and executive producer, Doctor Who. "Now, there's something else - now they can be the Doctor in brand new episodes. Doctor Who: The Adventure Games will offer fans of the Doctor a unique opportunity to enter his world, face his challenges and grapple with his deadliest foes.

"By developing these games alongside the new TV series, we've been able to weave exciting narrative strands with the very finest game design to create a new kind of Doctor Who, which can be enjoyed by the whole family."

The exact titles of the four episodes are being kept secret for now, but the four original stories will 'take players on a journey throughout time and space, including one location from the Doctor Who series which has never been seen before on screen.'
