But iPhone OS is nothing like Windows, or for that matter OS X or any of the desktop Linux distros out there. It's an embedded system designed for ease of use, not configuring and tinkering with. You only need someone to say "Why's the website not working?" then being directed to enable Flash, then they'll be complaining that their battery isn't lasting and they won't understand why... For many users, Flash probably isn't a big deal anyway...

A lot of Flash content is games. Games that require a keyboard to play. So much Flash content is useless on a touch-screen device anyway.

What? That's a load of [LIFTED]. Most of the Flash I come across is video content - be that YouTube or the BBC. Some of it is games, but very few require a keyboard (usually only a mouse) and the rest is interactive graphs etc, which again don't require a keyboard input. There aren't many webpages that will work 100% without Flash.

True, but on 99% of the sites I go on, Flash content is only used for adverts. So not a big deal IMO...

Yes AFAIK, purely cos Google were kind enough to re-code it.

Yep Google re-did the entire YouTube video coding because of the lack of ability to play flash from itouch/iphone Having access to flash is good... however it really is a cause for concern with security breaches left right and centre

BBC iPlayer works just fine too. The Flash sites don't play well on my Mac let alone my phone. What is the point of having unwatchable video? When Adobe makes a good client I will be interested in having it. Till then I don't care.

That is my main concern. Flash is the main gateway to macs and by not having it on the phone it is more secure then that is fine as well.

Wait wait wait, just how long did it take Apple to plug a hole in Java that Sun had patched ages before? I seem to remember forquare thanking the gods for the patch finally arriving.

On one occasion (at least) it was many months. Though if no flash means one less route then fine. I am surprised that other phone developers do not have the same attitude.

It just strikes me as odd that Apple will leave out Flash due to "security" but then not only roll Java into OS X, but fail to patch vulnerabilities that have been patched by Sun.

I don't remember anyone from Apple saying that. I thought that they said that it was buggy and sucked battery life. They do include Flash on the Mac after all where battery life is less of an issue. Lets face it Flash is rubbish. The sooner it is replaced with something better the sooner everyone will have a better web experience.

True, but I have to wonder just why it's so sh1t on Apple kit, apparently. What's the potential technical limitation there? It's the same sort of thing with QT on Windows machines - Mac users don't seem to have any problems with it, but Windows-types who wanna view movie trailers hate it

Yeah it is the same thing. However with Flash it does not seem to play well on any mobile device. Great on Windows desktop machines maybe but that is all. Out of interest how well does Flash run on Linux?
