The biggest complainers in the public seem to be those who are generally adverse to sports in general. I think it'd be better all around if people took part in, and watched, more sport.

I am not interested in football but I do appreciate that the world cup is on only every four years like the olympics so why moan? Soon enough it will be gone. Also while I might not like it many others do. Each to their own.

I agree.

Live and let live.

Rugby, Tennis, and the Olympics I can live with. I can sit and watch tennis and rugby, but football annoys me.
The commentary is mindless (last night we heard "nice run there" - Wow, adds a lot), the number of times the players missed the goal was terrifying, how much are they being paid to "shepherd a bit of leather into a badly made outdoor cupboard"? They get pushed and act all hurt...
I missed much of the olympics because I didn't have a TV, but I didn't hear about it all when I went out and about. It's hard to escape football (even when it isn't the world cup)

Live and let live, you say? OK, get out of the pub and out of everyday life and I'll stop complaining!

I don't have a problem with people supporting or playing sport, my only problem is the hype, combined with the fact that it's done to death in the media. Enjoy sport, play it if you want but don't bang on about it all the time and at the top of your voice. There are people who want to get away from it and they should be able to, I appreciate not everyone is as lucky as we are to be able to isolate ourselves from stuff we're not interested in.

5 pm when the budget details have sunk in and people realise how poor they are.

I think you're being completely unreasonable.

My local dresses itself with flags and such like every year for the six nations, and plays the games on the big screens.

What if I were to take your approach to rugby?

It's roughly a month every four years - get the hell over it and stop your bleating.

Again - live and let live.

No it's not. When it's not a World Cup, there's a Euro tournament, and the main English football season seems to last 50 out of 52 weeks. Even in the off season there's jibberjabber about players and transfers and whatnot. It's a never-ending barrage of noise about football. It drives non-fans nuts.

I'm an indirect member of a social club as I belong to a section. Every time I'm attending my section meetings, there's football on a big screen in the bar. To be honest, it's being ignored by most of the people in the bar!

Don't cross the DMZ.

It was in retaliation for an initial incursion across the DMZ by someone from your side. ;)

And I would expect no lesser reaction from that side....

Aye, I'm sorry, I didn't realise this thread existed. I went over, was shot, and came back...Just appears I dragged a few of the rabble with me...

Yup, sounds good, get rid of the rugby too. In fact, I'd already like to see TV turn more into an on-demand service, so that would fit me completely.
As Heather said, it's more than once every four years.

My main bug is the pub though. I go to the pub for a quiet drink. The pubs I go to are usually quiet, they have great alternative live music, and then the football...Why spoil it?

Anyway, as said. Bugger back over your side  :P

Aye, bring back smoking, that'll quieten down the pubs. ;)

My point exactly. The news has just started on BBC Breakfast and it's all World Cup again- talking to a bunch of school girls and other stuff. I keep turning over from Chris Evans because he won't shut up about it, and the other day, Steve Wright wittered on with one of his team about the World Cup for five minutes or so.

It's easy to avoid the Six Nations if you are not interested and hard to find much talk/news about it if you are. You cannot avoid the World Cup whether you care or not! It's in the news, the adverts, the street- the other day, some idiot blew a horn and shouted into my friend's face "COME ON ENGLAND!" His reply should not be repeated.

As for a "month", it's been headline news since before the Winter Olympics started and that's one reason why, when it starts, I just want England to go out as early as possible, so that everyone will finally shut up.
