1) they did survive the plane crash and live on the island
2) as they die (on the island or much later in life for those that 'got away') they went to purgatory - the 'alternative' world we've been seeing in the last series
3) once they resolve their issues - with help from Desmond in most cases - they found each other and go on to the afterlife collectively

I also took from it that Hurley became the new protector and had Ben working for him which was the 'no1, no2' speech outside of the church. Ben obviously wasnt ready yet to move on though.

That kind of wrapped it up for me and I quite liked it. It was quite an emotional finale too.

Anyone heard about this new series called "The Event", starting this Friday on Ch4, I think. Many are billing it as the new Lost - don't think I'll start watching it, as Sky will no doubt snap it up after the first season so I won't see beyond that. Sounds interesting though.

I was going to give it a go and see what happens.

and, no doubt, the writers will lose interest somewhere along the way and we'll be left to interpret the outcome or meaning at the end. Nah, think I'll give this one a miss!
