The Apocalypse:

UK braced for severe storm and heavy rain

Quote:
Millions of people in England and Wales have been warned to prepare for heavy rain and hurricane-force winds on Sunday night and Monday.

Gusts of up to 80 mph (120 kph) are predicted in the South West, moving north and eastwards overnight. There are fears about falling trees, buildings being damaged, flooding and disruption to power supplies and travel.

The Met Office said 20-40mm (0.80-1.6 ins) of rain might fall within six to nine hours in the wettest areas. It said the predicted storm - named St Jude after the patron saint of depression and lost causes, whose feast day is Monday - was not one "you would see every year".

More from the BBC here.

Getting noticeably windy in SE London/Kent but nothing at all serious yet.

However...

It is already windy outside now, though I am locked down for the week so do not really worry.

I'm following updates/discussion on a weather forum and despite some people saying it's not as bad as predicted, others are pointing out that the storm hasn't even reached the UK yet. Some updates from the South Coast indicate that things are getting a fair bit stronger there.

The weather from Northern Ireland is quite calm at the moment. (8+)
Just saying.

This is interesting, it's not even Monday morning yet (read the article for context!) and yet the first line of the article is written in the past tense.
Lazy journo.

The Met Office have apparently said that winds at Heathrow might reach up to 90 mph and the storm might last longer than expected, with worst hit areas being the Channel, South Coast and Kent.

Here inland we had 80, on the coast was supposed to be hurricane force with wind speeds over 100.

It is over 60km/h outside right now with gusts near 100Km/h. According to my weather app this speed is likely for the rest of the morning and it will still be high until sunrise tomorrow, with a thunderstorm warning this afternoon.
