Had a play with one in the o2 store - couldn't replicate any connection issues with the touching the sides thing. Nice display though.

Did you upload straight from the iPhone? The issue I'm having is the only way to get the 720p anywhere without any compression is through iTunes sync. I hope this gets sorted, not a huge inconvenience but annoying.

No, I uploaded originally from the iPhone directly but it compresses it down to a 280 vertical resolution. (It's still on my YouTube account if you want to see the quality). I then imported it into iPhoto and uploaded it to YouTube from my MBP.

Is there a possible software fix for the signal loss problem around the corner...? http://www.macrumors.com/2010/06/27/ste ... tay-tuned/Très intéressant.

I don't see how a software fix is possible.

You're assuming the reason everybody has speculated is the cause, is actually the cause. In fact chances are only the engineers within Apple actually know how the whole thing works together to produce the effect, so only they know how it can be fixed. I know somebody who works at RIM and we've been discussing it. He thinks it's at least party down to how the iphone 'hunts' cells i.e. which cell in the coverage area it decides to talk to. He figures changing that algorithm may possibly change the behaviour. But as I say, it's all speculation. If we see iOS 4.01 soon and the problem goes away, then they have. If not, then probably they can't. Jon

I don't believe that this issue wasn't noticed by Apple in testing. Is it a coincidence that they have produced their first ever case - a case that happens to solve the problem?
If there is a software fix, I find it hard to believe that they wouldn't have got it sorted before release - they would have avoided all the negative reports.

Perhaps it was noticed by Apple, and they've worked out how many units it's likely to affect. Perhaps that number wasn't worth holding back the launch for, and simply dealing with it as and when. For all the negative press about it, how much has it affected the sales of the iPhone? Are there many left on the shelves? The one's I played with in the O2 store - I was unable to replicate the fault. Although one handset appeared to have a burnt in image on the display, believe it or not, and yellow patches. As always, never buy the .0 release.

Can't imagine how I would get a burnt in image on the screen?! The yellow patches were apparently an issue with the bonding process used to bond the glass to the screen. Apple said that it would go away over time although I think that shops have also replaced them as warranty faults.

It's a problem with OLED screens, but I didn't think the iPhone had one.

Tempted to get one in a month or so, still need to compare to a desire/milestone (apparently a milestone 2 is due in a month or 2)

Nope I can (after this weekend) afford the handset outright and then the £35/m 12m tariff in Tesco isn't too bad (even the 32gb one.... but i'd probably go for 16gb) I do need to try the devices out first though. My major beef is being tied to iTunes, I hate having to use it with my iPod touch and preferred using MediaMonkey with my classic before they borked the drivers for 3rd party software. The hardware itself is decent (bar flaws) As I said it's between the 4g, desire, milestone and potentially waiting for something new to arrive. The milestone 2 is due and hands on previews look good. It's the qwerty keyboard I'm not sure if I will miss, as much as my X1 has irritated me recently having a physical keyboard is great, a flat screen can't provide the tactile feedback a full keyboard can Just one thing.... can you set custom message tones yet?

lol, not definite but I figured I might as well treat myself now I am done with uni, the Desire is more tempting (a lot cheaper) but if the iPhone issues get sorted I might think about getting one. Is the multitasking proper multitasking or just a few things?
