Only if they find a way of producing hydrogen sustainably surely?

I'm interested in reduced nose, quick refueling, being more environmentally friendly than battery cars, being better than battery cars. How the hydrogen is produced is way down the list as it isn't currently worse than petrol.

I suspect that it will be from breaking down methane, from fracking. Though considering that the US is already starting to notice a drop off in gas production from existing wells they are only maintaining it from the explosion in new wells. Only time will tell if fracking is sustainable. Using solar to break down water could be sustainable but at what cost?

There's lots of options for that. Gas breakdown with carbon capture, nuclear etc. Plenty of ways to reduce emissions. Like teh article said, as that improves, the car environment benifits straight away. You can't change the environmental output of a normal car once it's been built.

Yes there is still the actual construction of the car whether hydrogen powered or conventional that has some environmental impact. Though recycling of parts lowers the full environmental costs. The problem with carbon capture is that it has not been done commercially yet anywhere and so is still vapourware. If we are to avoid eventual environmental armageddon we need to slash carbon usage now. It will take decades for the existing carbon to be taken out of the system. This is a good alternative. If the costs of oil rose then it could make the construction of a hydrogen infrastructure viable, the only problem is that it is disruptive and when that happens there will be vested interests that will seek to stop it.

Traffic app gives countdown to green lights | | | | Quote: I'm cruising the wide boulevards of Las Vegas with Matt Ginsberg, inventor of EnLighten, a smartphone app that can supposedly predict when red lights will turn green.
I'm sceptical until we hit our first red light, whereupon the app displays a countdown and a voice says "at least 60 seconds". The prediction – based on analysing real-time traffic data – turns out to be a few seconds off, but I'm nevertheless impressed that it appears to work.
Ginsberg, chief executive of Green Drive, is showing off the free app this week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. EnLighten feeds off real-time traffic data supplied by cities, then uses a phone's GPS and accelerometer to determine its user's location and velocity.
When it detects that its driver's car has stopped, it combines the location information with current traffic data and generates a prediction for how long the stoppage will be. The traffic light systems in many cities are dynamic and alter depending on the real traffic situation. A few seconds before the green light is set to appear, the app – for iOS and Android – sounds a chime to alert the driver, who can then re-focus his or her attention appropriately. | | | | |

I do not think I will be looking for a new TV for a few more years yet. I can wait till they become cheap. I am still not convinced that UHD will be popular. Only time will tell.
