It depends what you want from multitasking I suppose. Yes, you can switch instantly between programs and rejoin programs exactly where you left them. Yes, you can have GPS programs running in the background. Yes, you can have music playing in the background. (Plus a few other things). I'm really not sure what else I would want to do? If I'm not looking at a program then why should care whether it's doing anything?

If I MSN you while you're browsing the web, how long does it take to notify? KW's iPad seems to have about a 10 minute delay

Don't know, never used it.
But the iPad doesn't have the same multitasking capabilities AFAIK.

My 3G doesn't even have iOS 4 and MSN works great - it uses push notifications and there is nothing like a 10 minute delay!
I've never noticed any delay what so ever.

That comes later in the year apparently.

The Milestone XT720 review in this weeks c't magazine is interesting. The display resolution is 800x480 and it has HDMI out, Motorola are claiming 9 hours talk and 320 hours standby, but that is probably with no apps running in the background! Not sure about the design, with the "bump" on one side, but it certainly looks like it could be a contender. But that is my problem with Android. With the iPhone, you know you have the best iOS 'phone for at least a year. With Android, you know you have the best Android 'phone for maybe 2 weeks... And then, do you want a 'phone with Motoblur or Sense or some other GUI, or the vanilla interface of the Nexus One? Upgrades? Maybe, sometime... Froyo (Android 2.2) is out now, but the Milestone XT720 will get it, maybe, at the end of the summer. The situation isn't any better for the other handsets. from other manufacturers, you have to hope and pray, that your network provider and the manufacturer will get around to releasing the new version - just look at the current phones being sold with 1.6 installed!

iPhone 4 sold for £1000!(8+0 That's just insane. The first post on the second page indicates it sold for the asking price. Mark

::Puts hand up:: I've had mine since 10am on Thursday morning and I absolutely love it! The camera is amazing for both photos and video and iMovie is so easy to use to make them all pretty and stuff. I've also got Real Racing which is a racing game updated for the gyro use in the iPhone4. Works amazingly well! No regrets from me

The production figures are something like 2 mIllion a month because of production problems so they are practically selling out in little more than a day. That might carry on for some time. It does show that the iPhone 4 is still not beaten.

Got to see an iPhone 4 in the flesh at the weekend. The screen is just fabulous. Can't wait for next Monday when mine arrives.

Makes an interesting read... iPhone 4 antenna issues: Software or hardware?Apparently, reports of a few iPhone 3G and 3GS models running iOS4 having similar issues as the new iPhone 4 with signal strength since updating to the new OS. Whilst the iPhone 4 does seem to have a susceptibility to this (due to the hardware design), it could possibly be fixed - or at least a reduced problem - with the next patch to iOS (4.0.1). I'm sure a lot of people will be eagerly awaiting that patch!

It's not proper multitasking as those of us who program mainframes (welll, clusters these days) know it. Generally speaking it's very fast suspend & resume, with no background processing. There are (I think) 7 'system hosted' styles of background process which an app can hand off to the OS when it gets put in the background, so they continue running. And looking at them, I think you can do some quite flexible stuff. However actual honest to goodness multitasking? No. JOn

If all it does is work to resolve this connection dropping issue then I'll not bother installing it, as my handset doesn't seem to be suffering the same effects that others are. Still, if it can be fixed/dramatically reduced through a software fix then that's very good for the people that this does affect. Mark
