It must be; I've got it. 25th Anniversary Edition, I think.

Yes, that version came out about 10 years ago and is now... Quite expensive to get.

Tron is one of those films that kind of got beyond being good or bad. It was so different, so ground breaking that, at the time, you just sat there with your gob open. It's kind of like The Matrix when that came out - everybody just looked at it and said 'What the [LIFTED] is THIS?' and things like plot and such didn't really matter at the time. It's also like Star Wars - it built such a fantastic world and back story that have kind of grown bigger than the film that held them. The difference of course being that Tron hasn't been permanently pumped into people's heads almost incessantly since.

In retrospect I'd say it's a pretty good adventure film. It's certainly a better film than most of the ones Disney were making at the time. It has a bad guy with a serious sense of menace, a relatively bland but likeable hero and the story is good but it's not Citizen Kane or anything. The thing about Tron though is everything that's going on around the story - the design, the world, the images. Tron is... a better idea than it is a film, but it's a pretty good film. Not good enough to pay like 40 quid for the DVD on eBay mind.

Sounds interesting, I've played the arcade game in an original arcade kiosk a few years ago, and thought it was really cool, just about as retro sci-fi as you can get, never got round to seeing the film.

My boss played the original Tron on DVD (or was it PSN) to his 5 year old kid last week. Apparently he sat there with his gob open and thought it was the coolest thing in the world :D

I had the video game on my 1980s MZ80K. My 2000 issue Nokia had an identical game, but in higher resolution

Interesting - obviously an older film, but I'd say Tron has been more influential than The Matrix possibly will be. If you see what I mean.

Just watched Tron, the MCP struck me as an evil Steve Jobs type character.

Give us a brief (not too brief) rundown of what you thought of it.
Please.

I don't think it's on PSN. You'd assume - given Steve Jobs now owns a fair lump of Disney via Pixar's reverse takeover - that it'dd be ont he iTunes Film Shop if it was anywhere, but it seems not.

You can of course get it from various unofficial online sources *cough* but I'd quite like a proper DVD version with 5.1 sound. Hopefully when Tron Legacy hits the cinemas they'll re-release the original film to cash in on it..

I kinda liked it, I liked the visual references to Star Wars, it had an innocent fascination with lasers, tanks and flashing lights, it had a very cute girl... but it was pretty pants if you take the orange suits and uplit faces away, one of those "and then they did this, because that's what we can draw" storylines. I also liked the playful way they suggested that humans are just software ourselves, though this idea doesn't play as large a part in the story as it does in The Matrix.

I'll buy the box set when it's down to about £12 :D

I can't access it and I keep getting Google errors!

Works for me, but I was surprised to see Picasa down the other day...
