Maybe he didn't on the day expected. You can do the lap any time, that's easy to film. The trick will be to spot if the audience in the back at interview time is the same as in the rest of the episode...

He'll turn up on the right day. He'll be setting out tomorrow.

Well I enjoyed it.
Good show.
And I still want a Maserati Gran Turismo.

Again, If I was to give it a grade I'd give it a 'B'. Hammond's race was somewhat what we've seen before but the guy with the jet wings is an interesting thing on several levels. The two cars on the track were quite entertaining and at least they did consider what they'd be like on the road. I thought the AMG was hideous but I'd also have a Maserati, although oddly I'd have the standard GT over that one. Clarkson may think it's a barge but most people don't spend their whole lives on tracks or driving other people's Ferraris. Plus it didn't look any bigger than say a Jaguar XK and it's certainly not as wide as a Lambo or Ferrari.

News was amusing enough. Thankfully they tactfully ignored Hammond's part of the wager and springing the loading bay thing on May was quite funny. And hardly a racial stereotype joke in sight!

I have to admit I ignored the reasaonably priced car segment. However nice a bloke Matt Smith may be, I can't deal with Clarkson doing any more interviewing. Sorry.

The highlight was of course the segment on the demise of SAAB. This is the kind of stuff Top Gear does quite well and more importantly can't find a way to mess up. It brings out the fact they do actually love cars and not just £200,000 monsters either. Neatly done, not too mawkish, reverential while also irreverent. The equivalent of a bowl of crumble & custard at the end of a televisual Sunday lunch.

I thought the SAAB segment was the only redeeming feature.

Still, they're inproving.

They have to. It must be getting to that time in BBC HQ when someone dares utter the phrase “they doing that again?” and memos are written. Top Gear needs to reinvent itself really.

Anyho, I thought the SAAB bit was good. And, yes, the Maserati is the one I’d choose too.

While I'm generally liking the series so far, there's been a lack of anything..... epic.

I like the minimalism of the forums. PC Problems, Mac Problems, Meeting place. Sounds good to me.

I know it's early days but it might be good to have a "Tech news" forum also?

Can do no problems, are you volunteering to post content in it?

As long as the press can't whip up enough of a faux moral outrage to cause it to be taken off screen, the sheer amount of cash it brings the BBC ensures its survival. As well as the viewing figures. It's going to be a brave DG to scrap such a successful brand.

You were right.

A completely different audience for the interview :D

Jeremy Clarkson: No More Top Gear Until 2013

Hide the children. Darken the windows. Get out your all-black clothing. Jeremy Clarkson told a South African radio program that British motoring revue Top Gear will not return until 2013. We think this might be because of the London Olympics. Remember that this summer when you're watching Synchronized Swimming.
Specifically, while talking about the Top Gear Live road show Clarkson says it's the only time the three hosts will be together the rest of this year.

"It is going to be, it better be absolutely fantastic, it's also about the only time the three of us are working together this year because there's no Top Gear on this year."

We think this means we'll have to wait until 2013 for the 19th season to start. We've reached out to the BBC for a comment.

I can see it meaning no spot in the schedule for a summer series but don't they do a series of TG in October/November?

EXCLUSIVE: Top Gear USA Is Back For A Third Season
In a live-chat here on Jalopnik today, Top Gear USA co-host Rutledge Wood announced that the auto-obsessed show will be back for a third season on the History Channel. Wood told Jalopnik commenters today that the show begins shooting this Sunday.

No air date has yet been given for when episodes of the new season will begin.

Oh, and Rut is still in the damn comments over there. The man's a machine.
