You mean the William Gibson treatment? I read that once. Brilliant but utterly unfilmable as things were at the time. You might be able to do it now with any awful lot of CGI and a $200m budget.

No - it was filmed. If you have Alien Quadrilogy, you’ll have the cut of the film with this in. The sounds in the inserted scenes is a bit rough as it wasn’t ADRed in places. However, I feel this was a better version of the film and is the version David Fincher intended (Fincher won’t talk about the film because of the way he was dicked about so much by Fox) The novelisation of the film used this version of the screenplay, and which I read before the film was released. There is a lot on the Quadriligy disks about the earlier planned versions of the film, including the wooden planet with monks idea.

Sounds good. I bet the blue Alien uniforms are for keying in CGI stuff later. It gives the real actors something to look at.

I am looking forward to this more and more.

+1, if the reviews indicate goodness I'll go and see it in the cinema (it's not often that happens any more). Maybe even in 3D, but ffs don't tell anyone

Aliens: Colonial Marines is a “true sequel” to Aliens

Follow-up arrives in game form

http://www.totalfilm.com/news/aliens-co ... -to-aliens

If it even had the tension of the recent AvP game with more development they'll be onto a winner. Maybe devote more time to the single player than most games these days...

Ridley Scott vows to work only in 3D

Quote:
Director Ridley Scott has joined a growing group of filmmakers who see 3D as the future of moviemaking, announcing that he is never to film in two dimensions again.

The multi-award winner is filming his new movie, Prometheus in 3D and has developed a love for the technology.

Scott, who usually operates the camera as well as directing, told a panel at Comic Con, via satellite link, "I'll never work without 3D again, even for small dialogue scenes.

"I love the whole process. 3D opens up the universe of even a small dialogue scene so I've been very impressed with that."

Prometheus, which began filming in March, was going to be an Alien prequel but has developed into a more independent production. The new film will see Scott return to the sci-fi genre shooting for the very first time in 3D.

Damon Lindelof, co-screenwriter of Prometheus, said: "3D helps bring you into that immersive environment and just based on what I've seen so far I think probably one the most visionary and visual directors in the world is finally using this medium, I think its going to be pretty special."

The announcement from Scott is quite a bold step, however, it could signal even more filmmakers and directors following suit.

If I thought it was anything more than a fad that currently limits everyone (production, studio and audience) in some way, great, but it's obvious the tech needs a lot more care/money/time than the studios are willing to give in the main.

Non-spoilery Prometheus pic, but details that should be avoided if you're looking to go in cold (only skim-read it myself):

3D requires a whole new set of aesthetics, and is in itself a potentially new cinematic language. The bean counters see it as a way to get bums on seats and a way to improve revenue for a film. I am wondering if Scott has “nailed it” - making 3D work not just technically, but from a story telling angle, or has he just been seduced by it?

I think he is mistaken, or is this his way of announcing his retirement? As 3D is no longer the draw it was.
