I think the biggest disappointment I had with Lego as a child was that if you built any sort of boat, it leaked, and then sunk.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

You had to bung the gaps up with plasticine. Or get a set with a sealed hull.

I'm not sure I ever tried that with the bigger boats now that you mention it (I usually only built the kits up)... I remember the smaller, single piece boats like the one in my OP floating though

That reminds me. My favourite ever lego set I ever owned wasn't the Technics car, (I thought it would be, but it was a bit of a let down somehow) it was a fishing trawler I got when I was very small. Edit: 'twas a tug boat apparently.

Kinda want... Lego Technic Bugatti Veyron. I'm not fussed by the car, but that's a cool build.

That's outstanding Not sure I'd have the patience to build that with a manual, never mind from scratch... and I built this: Bought these for the nephew to play around with once I've enjoyed making them - £5 and £8 or thereabouts from Tesco http://shop.lego.com/product/?p=8259&La ... &ShipTo=UKhttp://shop.lego.com/product/?p=8256&La ... &ShipTo=UK

It's very nice yes... ... but it is cheating a bit. Single purpose Lego blocks = Fail

I'm with Rusty. The train may look very nice but it isn't what Lego is all about. If I wanted a decent train I would buy Hornby, Lego is all about the construction initially and then imaginative construction there after.

There's a lot of cool designs that wouldn't exist otherwise though...
