I'm afraid for some reason I'm struggling to do captures, print screen or otherwise, with any of my plethora of media player applications so t'would appear I'm not really going to get into this game as much as I'd hoped. :x

VLC lets you take snapshots

Video> snapshot while the video is playing/paused

In Mediaplayer Classic, if it's giving you blank single-colour images then go into options and set the Playback / Output options to "System Default". You can't usually capture or printscreen if it's set to "overlay".
