What are the holes above the earpiece? The black iPhone4 doesn't have those. Mark

Thinking about it, it could be the proximity sensor. The white may not be transparent enough for the sensor to be underneath the glass front so physical holes may have been necessary for it.

Wrong direction. It's the mind control centre...

Its a secondary speaker sub-system that links directly to Apple HQ and upon detection of signal loss relays Steve Jobs' voice direct to your ear canal booming....

According to one Genius, the issue with the proximity sensor is down to light bouncing around the ear canal. http://www.tuaw.com/2010/07/06/proximit ... ear-canal/

Another thing I have noticed on the iPhone 4. On my 3G, when going into a contact, the Mail app would start in the background. This thankfully doesn't happen on the new iPhone.

There have been a couple of times where I have had to restart my iPhone 4 to get it working properly.
One was that the music control (when the phone is locked) only showed the play button even when the music was playing. It didn't switch between play and pause like it should do.
The main one though is that the accelerometer has stopped working twice so far. I'm not sure what series of events cause it to happen though. Yesterday I was showing Real Racing to someone and paused and quit out of it, I then went home and started Doodle Jump but the accelerometer wasn't working so I couldn't control the guy.
I then went back into Real Racing and the race was still paused so I unpaused it and carried on racing only the steering was now backwards!!! Even quitting the race back to the main menu and starting again wouldn't fix it. I tried Doodle Jump again to no avail.
The only way I could fix it was to turn the phone off completely and turn it back on.
That's happened to me twice now and I think it may be to do with Real Racing as it has background API stuff for iOS4, not sure though.
It's very annoying though.

I've seen reports of something similar in Gameprom pinball games. Under certain circumstances the shake to tilt function stops working. The only way to fix it is to exit the game and start again.

Yes that might help why aerials do not work on the black iPhones they do not have this.
