Prefer the colour. Add a bit more contrast, I reckon.

Oh, and the "model" ought to be persuaded to be a little more relaxed perhaps? Or not actually looking in your direction? Might be worth looking around various other street photographers' work to see how they handle it.

Took a recce out to the church my mates getting married in, and while I couldn't get inside, I took a couple of cameras with me.
I'm loving the 'new' Mamiya 35mm body I'm using. It sounds and feels sooo precise and well made.
I've also figured out something that bugs me about DSLRs. No aperture ring. Instead, face away from camera, fiddle with settings, then click. It's bugging me.

I'm not trolling when I say this, but get a decent enough DSLR and you don't have to take your eye away from the viewfinder to accurately change aperture.

Looking good, but a little flat tonally.

I'd bump some contrast into it to make it jump out. If I had time, I'd have a play to show what I mean, but I'm a bit busy right now.

Had a quick play - how about this?

Upped the contrast at the top end and then added a little sharpening.

cant understand that :( If I bump up the contrast to max it ends up darker where as your edit is brighter wtf

The curve above shows how I adjusted the contrast.

Think of the gradient (steepness) of the heavier line as the contrast you want to achieve. You can see that

  • the gradient at the bottom left is the same as the original - so the contrast on areas such as her left sleeve doesn't change
  • the gradient in the middle is higher - so the contrast on areas such as her face and hands is higher
  • the gradient at the top right is very flat - so the contrast on areas such as the bright background is a lot lower.

Just my personal preference but it looks a bit oversharpened in the edit

Agreed.

I didn't have time to do it properly.

There's something about the River Medway that keeps dragging me back at the crack of dawn over and over again.
