Over the next few weeks we are being migrated from XP to Win7 at work.

Assuming that all of the web based apps have been tested this has got to be a good thing, surely? Does this mean that you'll be getting shiny new PCs? Oooh, shiny! Also, is this an internal project or are you hiring a bunch of "greedy money grabbing bar-steward engineers" (that's what my old boss once called my team, when I was a contractor on an XP rollout, and he was right! ) to do the migration?

I believe its going to be a group of GMGBSE Its going to be fun watching people getting used to office 2010 when we have had office 2003 since 2004. As for shiny new PCs, I believe they will be new, but only in the sense that they will be low spec but still higher spec than the standard desktop. The big downside is that we are staying with Notes

We got upgraded in July, everyone to W7 Office 2010 and switched from Notes to Outlook. It's generally considered a good thing, only we PA's are complaining, Outlook functionality isn't as flexible as Notes which is unhelpful.

Are you saying that Notes is unhelpful and that Outlook functionality is not as good? Only joking, I knew what you meant, but my version sounded funnier in my head!

Got an email today saying I haven't been shortlisted for a job but am on the reserve list.
Now I would be gutted only it's a job I've never heard of for a company I've never heard at an office in Swindon.

Recruitment company calls for me... calls the project managers direct line....
Had a lot of that recently

Carphone Warehouse are replacing my phone. The options are the Samsung Galaxy SII or the HTC Sensation. I went with the Sensation.

Update... The company phone me up offering me an interview. It turns out the email is wrong and the job is not in Swindon but Nottingham. There's a good chance I sent a CV some time ago and forgot all about it during one of my 'apply for everything' job hunts. The way I see it I've got about as much chance as winning the lottery as a) I'm 2nd choice before I even get through the door after being on the reserve list, b) the two main technologies are Sharepoint and SQL which I know exactly diddly-squat about and c) you have to give a Powerpoint presentation. Frankly I'm not sure why they're bothering to interview me but I'm going for the experience. The frightening, terrifying, soul destroying experience.

No, I think you were spot on. I've suffered Notes a few times. It is powerful, unfriendly, hard to use, slow, unstable, but powerful... Outlook tends to be quick, easy to use, reasonably full featured, but misses out on some power featrures. I did the same. My boss thas the GSII and I found the build quality and Sense better on the Sensation.
