I've used windows 7 since the beta, it's on the work machine I use every day and while it's a ton better than XP, it's nowhere near OS X in large areas. I certainly wouldn't hand it to someone who wasn't 'techliterate' in favour of OS X, for example. Jon

Using it on a daily basis, I can't really see any big differences between the two, apart from the menu bar in OS X being at the top of the screen, not the window and the search top right, not bottom left... In general use, there isn't much between them AFAICS

Although I've not used 7, one issue I have with Windows compared to OS-X is the non-Bash terminal. I know the windows command prompt is not necessarily inferior, it's just different to what I use on OS-X and *nix, so is a bit of a pain when scripts run on the other OSs I use.

It's on the work PC. It's been there since not long after it was released. Your point? Mark

Win 7 is lovely. OSX seems nice, but I don't know it as well. It is however, more expensive with equivalent hardware. So for that reason alone, I'm unlikely to get to know it better. Of course a pffffft is always great

That could so be a line from 2001: A Space Odyssey.

As long as I could have SLED 11 (or, failing that, RHEL) on it I wouldn't care.

I absolutely hated SLED. It's what my netbook came with out of the box. I'm assuming it's better on supported hardware or maybe HP shipped a partial build, but I just gave up after a solid week of trying to resolve dependency errors and wrap drivers. It now runs XP, and everything "just works". If only everything was like that; I may be posting a Win7 question soon

why do we have 2 moderators partaking in a flame war? seriously guys, the Mac vs PC debate is a subject defined by personal experience. we all have different opinions, different reasons for using what we use, and i honestly thought we were past all that. its been established that the first post was a likely troll attempt, cant we just leave it? this thread should have been locked on the first page.

This is friendly banter. You've clearly never seen a real war
