Unfortunately, if I did that, I'd end up looking like a shoved my face into a sink full of razors! I also have dry skin that can flake.

Also, a massive thumbs up to Geo F Trumpers shaving soap as recommended by Prof. Feels great, smells nice and with a £7 brush from Men-U does a fantastic job and looks set to last me bloody ages.

I've bought some, but have yet to shave with it...I'm waiting for a chance to sharpen my razor over the weekend...

It doesn't hurt at all, but all of the shaving gels and foams I've tried bring me out in a rash...

Dunk the BiC disposable under the shower until clean, apply to wet face.

I misread "coconut" for second and was very worried about your choice of after shave.

You are an arse. I reckon I'm now going to spend something in the region of £100 at that site, if not more.

Current prewash: some orange L'oreal stuff (hydra energetic)
Current preshave oil: King of Shaves alpha
Current foam: Gilette Hydra Gel
Current postshave: L'oreal hydra energetic daily moisturiser

I want to replace all of these but no idea where to start other than looking at reviews at that site. Any suggestions?

I haven't gone that nuts with it. Otherwise, your face could easily become another Edition 30 ;)

I use Nivea face wash and postshave because it's effective and wasn't too expensive. However, I do have free samples of the entire Clinique range in my suitcase somewhere, so I guess I should try those. Then no oil, just Trumpers with a brush. But I take my time, always shave straight after a shower and apply the face wash DURING the shower. I've never enjoyed shaving, but this is certainly the best it's ever been for me. Of course, just as soon as my work situation changes, I suspect I will return to not shaving!

The key for you is to ditch the Gillette Gel. Almost anything would be nicer. I'll recommend the Trumpers, because Prof recommended it to me and it works for me. Plus it's incredibly economical. But as long as you stop using Gillette, you'll be on your way...

Using this at the moment (bought for me):

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001E5N6OM/r ... B001E5N6OM

A little of it goes a long way and I'd recommend it (it's cheaper elsewhere), but then I try to get away with only shaving when I absolutely need to

Have you managed to track me down, then?

Supposedly very good and much better than the Nivea stuff.

I find oil helps because TBH the gel alone is crap (irrespective of which one it is).

This is one of the thing's I'm looking into - currently looking at Trumpers soap and brush but they're out of sandalwood, so am pondering between rosewater and coconut scented soap.

At the moment, I've priced up the following:

RazorPit £19.95
Triple Benefit Post Shave Remedy 50ml £28.50
Lab Series for Men Smooth Shave Oil 30ml £19.50
men-u Premier Shaving Brush £37.95
Geo F Trumper Wooden Shave Bowl - Rose £18.00
TOTAL £123.90

I'm still deciding between sticking with my Gilette Fusion Power razor and doing for a double-edged one. Funnily enough, that's what I learnt to shave with - it was my dad's but he stopped using it decades ago. Some new blades and a bit of sterilisation and it was good to go. In fact, it was the Mach 3 that convinced me to switch and I felt it was better that the DE razor.

This could easily go out of hand. I've spent over £1000 on stuff to detail my car with, and I could potentially do the same with this stuff. Must stop.

I can save you about £31.
Go down to Body Shop and buy one of their £6 brushes. They're ace.

Even with a fresh blade, the sensation of having the hair on my face pulled out by a cheap blade, the cuts, nicks and bumps I get using a disposable just aren't worth the hassle.

:?

Obviously I shave differently to the rest of you then - I've only ever cut myself a couple of times.

I frequently use disposables on my head sans gel with no trouble or even irritation.

I think it's not just technique but also skin. My skin gets a lot of irritation unless it's properly cushioned (hence the need for foams and oils) and the blade is in good condition. This can be severe enough to cause bleeding.

Just ordered a RazorPit for £18.94 from here:

http://www.pharmacy2u.co.uk/ProductDeta ... code=RZBS1

Delivery's free over £20 but there's nothing else I'll need for months yet...

And here's a RazorPit vid I found:
