I hear those iPad things are becoming very popular in the business world. Apart from advertising bosses posing with them, I've seen 2 in my travels so far, and they were both privately owned and unofficially pulling data from the corporate network (both IT managers, so they probably get away with it).

We are currently looking for a bunch of tablets for a customer. Having problems finding anything at the moment.

Not iOS (must have Java), not Android (must be "real" Java), which pretty much leaves Windows tablets or full blown Linux (if you could find any). Needs at least 6 hours battery life... Causing many headaches at the moment.

Apart from anyting, it does I'm afraid emphasise how much bollocks the Java sales pitch of 'write once, run anywhere' turned out to be. Not directly through their fault but just because Java turned out to be nowhere near as ubiquitous as they hoped it would be.

Unless you have a java app already written for the task why not write a specific app for the iPad? It might be a lot less problematic. If you take in to consideration lifespan of the device you might be safer to write an app for the iPad. At least that way they will still be around in a number of years if you need new hardware.

How different is Java for Android? Is it just that Google cut out some of the APIs? If so then that's not Java's fault.

And Apple banned it from the iPad...
