Okay, so who had heard of the things they had to make for the technical challenge ( Kouign amann)? It was certainly a new one on me.

Not me. They looked basically like croissants done in cupcake tins.
Sorry to see Kate go but she had a bit of a mare of a weekend.

I've had it before on holidays in Brittany. Recommended as it's really tasty.

Well it's a bad show for Chetna to fluke what was on the technical (and come first) to not get star baker
That said enriched doughs did not seem to be Martha's forte and under pressure she didn't handle it well

I honestly think she should have got star baker. She did nothing wrong at any point as far as I could see. Maybe the whole thing with the technical bake meant they felt that they couldn't give it to her. She's been struggling for a few weeks to be honest. I'm still sad to see her go to though. She's such a lovely person - practically the spirit of Bake Off made into a person - and the fact she got so far at 17 is amazing but it was definitely the case that her race was run.

Maybe because she had the experience from the everyday challenge they expected more from her on it? That said everyone seemed to have issues during this week (mainly technical) but I think her South African doughnut plaits let her down a bit. Just a bit annoyed after they didn't let anyone go they didn't have a double elimination the following week (presumably because of the woman leaving), would mean I wouldn't have to miss the final!

I think the only reason Chetna didn't get Star Baker was because her South African twist thingies looked like they were basically oozing oil when you bit into them - as PH said - if they'd been a bit thicker they wouldn't have soaked up as much oil and would have been better.
For me the pure comedy moment of the episode was Mel squirting the oil in her mouth because she thought it was booze.
It was a bit of a shame for Martha but I think everyone could see it coming as it just wasn't going well for her that weekend.
