Maybe I misphrased it. If we sat the sofa in the room, with one end against the wall, the other end would stop the door from fully opening. IE the sofa is essentially too long for the room.

Here's a crappy Paint job. It's from my memory. I've got the precise dimensions down on paper somewhere incl fireplace, windows, radiator (under window). The room is 4x3m. The door is a "standard" size (but I can't recall how large). The 3-seater will sit fine by the window but both sofas are 1m deep and the radiator position doesn't help. The 4-seater is about 15cm too long. We've tried repositioning as best as possible using different combinations but it doesn't really work. The left "wall" is a walk-through to the dining area so we can't really block it.

Forgive me if I'm being stupid, but from your diagram, swapping the 3 seater with the 2 seater and vice versa would solve the problem. (Admittedly, you would struggle to use a bit of the 3 seater). Didge

I think we did try it that way but the radiator under the window means the whole thing has to come forward so we lose a bit of space. That means it still sticks out by 5cm. I will double check tonight but am sure we looked at both configurations.

I vote for 1 sofa and poofs that you can use as temporary sitting or prop feets on. be careful to not put furniture too close to external walls or you can get mould forming

Then the door doesn't open at all! As I said above, I really need to go for a 2 and a 3 seater, instead of a 3 and a 4 seater. Problem is the sofa I want only comes in the latter sizes.

Open out to the hallway? Get rid of the door? Take measurements to sofa shop and ask them?

I think it's safe to say that the sofa is too big for the room and he's said that numerous times. Get one that fits I say <helpful>

Would a sliding door be an option?
