Forgot about that, USA beat Spain 2-0 in the confederations cup when Spain had gone 34 unbeaten. They were then 2 up on Brazil in the final at one stage. Anyhoo, let's get our shooting boots on boys.

Bound to concede the first goal.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Don't worry, we'll be fine - Heskey is playing! I'm thinking hat-trick?

And so it begins... 1-0.
And still after half an hour.
And who in there right mind would want to go for a 50-50 ball with Heskey?

His assists, including the one tonight have been essential to England. At least Green doesn't look too affected by his howler, just need to get a few more goals now so he doesn't get linched by the media. One of those bad, very bad, things...

Did anyone find an American, by the way?

Anyone still think England can win it? Honestly?
How many chances do world class players need?
Ignore Green's fumble, in fact, forget it completely - even if we had won this 1-0 it wouldn't be good enough.
You can't squander a half-dozen chances and expect to win.

Well, so long as we improve game by game you shouldn't make too much out of it.
Teams that do well tend to start off slowly. Just so long as we improve.
I was pleased that Green made a great save in the 2nd half, kept us in it.
So, we play better than we have in a while and get a draw. Never look at playing sub 100% and winning in a bad light.

It was a decent performance, better than I expected. I was impressed by Lennon, very good performance from him. SWP was poor, I hope he won't play anymore on this WC. I wouldn't mind seeing Joe Cole on the left wing in the next game, I am not a Milner fan tbh. Not much to say about Green's error, things like that happen sometimes, I hope he will keep his place. Carra got away with his error but I am worried about CB position. What is the deal with King? Why was he take off? I better won't be his knee! It is too soon to judge England but if that is the best they can do, they will need a great amount of luck to win it. USA played very well btw.

+1 on Joe Cole. I was pleased to see Milner in rather than having a midfield with Carrick involved. He was taken off because he getting done for speed, whether that has anything to do with the bug he's just had who knows. SWP, speedy but he forgets to take the ball with him.

On the plus side, despite Rooney having a fairly quiet game and being fouled persistently, he held his temper quite well.
I'd like to see Joe Cole back on the pitch, in England colours - I couldn't understand why SWP was brought in on the left. He's an obvious sub for Lennon, but why on the left wing?

Argentina have the best forward line that's probably ever existed in international football - they have the guy who scored two goals in the Champions League final and can afford to start with him on the bench for pity's sake - yet today they only scored one goal against Nigeria despite a hatful of chances. Are they suddenly a bad team that have no chance of progressing far in the tournament? No, of course they aren't. All forwards squander chances, complaining about it is missing the point. If you make enough chances you will still score goals and England do make plenty of chances. The problem is England's defense isn't good enough to win the world cup - You can't win the world cup if you can't keep clean sheets and England can't keep clean sheets. We can score plenty of goals, we just concede far too many either by individual error as tonight or by just not being solid enough at the back. You shouldn't be worried about the number of chances England missed, you should be worried about the number of chances the USA missed.
