This was Hoovers hope in the 30's but that did not work either. This policy only really works when there is full employment, and that private sector is being crowded out. During a recession employers can get all the staff they want. This most likely as we face more than a decade of high unemployment and a stagnant economy. The austerity budget will not work.

Tesco are changing the conversion rate of clubcard points into Airmiles. From 1st September 2010 they will be converted at the rate of 50 air miles instead of 60 air miles per 250 clubcard points.
They no longer convert automatically and are keeping the double clubcard points scheme going.

For a period of time points are doubled in value (£5 and multiples thereof) for certain items like phones, toys, gardening gear...

I was just about to post that , anytime I've ever read anything from the RICS it sounded like utter b0llocks and generally was, so I wonder what's prompted the new direction?

I guess it's a tiny improvement in the house market causing a glut of homes to go on the market.

Yes but their members gain from a property bubble so they want a buoyant property market. It is the same from estate agents and building societies. Vested interests. I never saw this recovery as real. The Bank of England have flooded the banks with liquidity, and requests not to foreclose. Though once repossession kick in the market could tumble fast.

What I'm getting at is, they've changed tack from just trying to brazen it out, choosing figures that suited them despite the reality. Now they're using 'crap' figures to encourage movement

Yes getting the suckers involved is always a bad sign. If house prices had be controlled we would have far less problems. Almost no repossessions, more spending power for consumers etc, which could be used saved. Yes there is a talk confident in the hope that people will fall for it. They are hoping to encourage the bargain hunters back in. If they can get the funding.

Two best solutions for travel money I could find: 1. Cash http://www.travelmoneyservices.co.uk/index.asp2. Prepaid cards https://www.caxtonfxcard.com/cards_desc ... t=CAXTGENLEDIT: I forgot to say that you can load CantonFX card by sms from a registered mobile, handy when abroad without secure internet connection. And exchange rates are very good too.
