How bleedin' long can it take to install an application? There's nothing wrong with this computer - core2 duo with 4 gigs and plenty of disk space. The installation package finished downloading over an hour ago, but it's now on "5 of 20" and has already rebooted the PC twice

It's this one, in case you were wondering: http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/e ... er-express

Name and shame. :D

Edit: Oh on the VAG forum. I dare not ask what type of forum that is...

It's working now. I left it switched off for a bit, but I like the look of this as a replacement.

Snap.

My PVR has gone on the blink again, well it won't initialise the hard drive. I sorted it last time by buying a new plug/adapter thingy as they tend to go. As it's happened a 2nd time now I think killing the power brick is just a symptom of something else...

Well, that's what I'm telling myself. That Humax has got pretty darned good reviews and I believe I really need one now.... :D

My current box is a Humax. I would recommend them.

+1 :D

The gayness that is iTunes. My itunes library is spread across three different computers, two of which are effectively dead. I've tried merging the libraries unsuccessfully.

Apps can be redownloaded. And if I live in the US, I can redownload all of my music/videos etc. But because I don't, I can't.

Why can't this stuff just be easy? Why can't it all "just work"?

I'm assuming you're now using just one machine?
Is the music on the other two machines bought via the iTunes store or ripped from CDs?
If it's ripped from CDs, just copy the files over to the prime machine and import them via iTunes.
I don't think iTunes uses DRM on the music any more does it? So you could probably do the same anyway.

Better than Windows XP... I spent the whole of flaming yesterday afternoon and evening installing XP, until I gave up and went to bed at midnight!

Why the [LIFTED] can't they have a single update, which updates the OS to the current patch level? I don't want to sit through dozens of update-reboot cycles!

^^^I've slipstreamed SP2 and SP3 on to an WinXP+SP1 disc as well as various updates since then which has helped enormously. Maybe an idea?

With iTunes, it's stuff I've purchased, which is why I'm pissed off.

I did that when I had to do a reinstall on my netbook, saves hours.

In the end, this took a lot longer than installing XP and it's updates.
48 hours and 5 reboots. XP only took about 10 minutes to install and 8 hours to patch on the same computer.

It's a slightly unusual "application" because it actually installs 20 separate packages. I wasn't really expecting that.
