Apple has raised the minimum price of iPhone apps

Well, no, the EU have instituted a rather bonkers set of new rules which require almost all online companies to raise their prices and will force some small digital-only companies out of business. But hey, let's blame Apple.

Why is it bonkers? It makes it much easier for us, when we buy stuff, as we don't have to deal with dozens of different VAT rates on our invoices.

Also, it wasn't just the VAT rules, Apple also took the opportunity to realign their exchange rate conversions.[/quote]

And so your small, local band that gigs around pubs suddenly has to register for VAT because they sold an MP3 via their own web site for 99p to someone in France..

That's why it's bonkers - it's putting massive record keeping burdens on micro businesses. It's the duty of the seller to determine where the buyer was (let's' snot forget that using IP addresses is not accurate due to VPNs and other such technologies), to handle VAT/MOSS returns, to keep records for 10 years - with the data protection legislation to comply with too. Larger businesses can absorb this paperwork because it will likely be in their accountancy system anyway, but this is making smaller operations think that it's easier to shut up shop than continue operating.

Good, over here every business has always had to register for VAT, no ifs, not buts. If you have a business you have a VAT number and must make quarterly returns, whether your turnover is 1€ or 1M€.

Previously I've had customers in Italy, among others and I had to register for foreign VAT there as well.

Where I now work, we have customer all over Europe and the former Eastern Block. We have had to always register for each country, maybe that is why I don't see a problem.

I used to have a Powerbook Duo with the big chunky dock.
Lost it in the move before last though. I miss it. It's a classic design.

More likely the deal that meant one or other media conglomerate was paying them to give the song away as a promotion has ceased.

And how is offering something that people can choose to download or not 'telling' people to listen to it anyway? I so loathe those kind of headlines.

I hope to God, that it doesn't use the same technology as their Translate web page!

Last time I used it to translate from English to German (to save time in writing a manual), phrases like "don't open the case, high voltage inside," were translated into "open the case, high voltage inside."

I'm pretty sure that Google had noticed that I had switched to WindowsPhone and wanted to teach me a lesson!

if they've written reasonably clean webcode, there's a fairly limited list of things that 'apple platform limitations' will block. The thing is, none of those things are going to change any time soon. However, as iOS users can just use the whatsapp.. er.. app, I'm not entirely sure what the problem is. I'm not even sure why they'd bother pointing it out to be honest. 'Thing nobody with any sense would try to do doesn't work'. Wha?
