Just saw Star Trek, Into Darkness.

Mmm. At least it wasn't too long. I suppose it was OK but I found the new Spock annoying at times and the story a little contrived. Maybe I'm just getting old and jaded, but even the fight scenes weren't great. One of the new ships we see is pretty cool, but some of the space scenes looked kind of flat. Maybe I should have seen it in 3D!

New Kirk was convincing and true to character though. New Uhura is very nice. In fact, most of them pull it off pretty well. I just don't like the way Spock is rewritten or the writing in general.

Talking of 3D, I made a point of watching this in 2D and I was very disappointed at the projection quality. The trailers all looked fantastic, and then it was like they switched off the real (reel) projector and turned on a cheap digital one, plugged into an iPhone to play the main feature.

It was about a tenth as bright as the trailers and adverts, and the resolution looked about 1080 - which is terrible on a screen that size. Plus the frame rate was low, so the panning scenes juddered and blurred terribly. Seriously; I've watched better quality reproduction off TPB on my TV at home. I wanted to see this on the Big Screen to get a Big Experience, and it very much failed to deliver...

Verdict? Wait until the BR is £5 or watch it on TV.

Damn I am going to see it next Friday. Though luckily for me I will have absolutely no memory of this review and so will still be able to enjoy it. :)

Probably by the next day. I am going with a friend so will probably talk about it for that day so will keep it alive for that day. Though once I have slept I probably will only remember less than 25% and that might only be the next bits.

Star Trek Into Darkness - solid 4/5 I think.
You could've all watched the trailers without fear.

Quite right too. Context within the film is important. :)
The only thing that struck me was a CGI tear on Kirk's face.
Also, Cumberbatch is a brilliant bad guy.
There's Klingons.
And a tribble.
And a hot blonde in her underwear.

Spring Breakers - er, someone told me not to just go for the boobies and party scenes as there was more to it; there is, but there is A LOT of boobies, party scenes, a little full on sex and some strange directing. The first thing the future Mrs Blue said when she left was she wouldn't watch it again, and two other couples left before it finished.

I'd probably watch it again, but maybe with the boys and a couple of beers, not with my parents.

James Franco plays an excellent part though I don't think his performance makes it worth watching if this isn't usually your cup of tea.

There was a lot of publicity about it some months ago when it was released in the US. It is one of Selena Gomez's first post Disney roles.

Did you see it in 3D?

Nope, 2D. It's not a story that I could see the point of it being in 3D, really. There's probably some DOF effects with some floating letters and a couple of driving sequences, but the story really doesn't need it.
