Actually taking an old phone is probably a better option. Though the ability to access the internet when abroad can be very handy. Remember many would have been trying to access airline web sites during the volcano eruption. I was doing on my parents behalf when they were stuck out there.

<nods> My brother and his family were stranded by the ash cloud and he used skype on his iPhone on the hotel wifi to keep in touch rather than get a whacking bill on his return for all the calls he was having to make...

Neat free Tron game hits iPhone

It's not every day you get a free game that's actually worth playing, but Disney's just released a Tron-inspired tank shooter on the iTunes App Store for iPhone and iPod Touch, and it's actually rather neat.

It uses twin analogue-style control to move your tank around enemy facilities, shooting drones, avoiding gun turret fire, blasting through walls and finding switches to unlock rooms and find the exit portal.

It also throws a trailer to the new Tron move in there for you, and a look at the bigger game headed to Xbox and PS3.

Not bad for nout. Check it out on iTunes here.

I take it he means with the bumper offer period, or if they'll 'adjust' the white iPhone in any way...

Assuming the white phone doesn't launch before the end of September (when Jobs said the offer would be 'reconsidered') they may well be out of luck. It's certainly plenty of time to come up with some sort of lacquer for the exposed antennae to mitigate the problem.

It would make no difference. Don't expect any "tweaks" to the iPhone. They won't happen. RF does not behave in the same way as current. Only as significant gap between the hand and the poles of the antenna will alter the characteristics of how the signal is received.

The iPhone 5 may have the poles recessed into the body of the phone but that would entail a major redesign. In the meantime iPhone 4 is much better than iPhone 3GS so why worry?

They might include bumpers with the white iPhones or open the offer to white Iphones only.

Not available in the UK store sadly. Maybe it will be soon.

There is the issue that people's perception of a product is linked to what it costs to get - there's a degree that people think if a thing has a high price tag, it must to a degree be worth it. The corollary being that if something is being given away for free, people may then perceive it as 'cheap and nasty' even if in fact it isn't. If they're not careful, Samsung may fall into that trap.

I dont think that is the case, if you have a high enough mobile contract you can get the iPhone 4 for close to nothing. I think that the problem is that it will need a decent discount compared to the iPhone to get many to consider switching.

They are selling well at the moment. There seems to be some "halo" effect on the Mac too.

:)

Yes but could that halo effect be coming from the iPad as well. Mac sales could be increasing because Apple are now regarded as a secure company not likely to fail leaving users in the lurch like the case many years ago.
