So it will be an early Christmas present to myself then.

Or, having waited that long already you could just wait for the next one?

That's it, base your purchasing decisions on rumours. Mark

There will be another in July so a few months more and why worry? Though November/December time is fine to get a iPhone 4

iPhone App of the Week: InstapaperIf, like me, you often end the working day with a dozen open browser tabs full of articles you meant to read later, Instapaper could be just the ticket. This delightfully clever service installs a “Read Later” button in your PC browser’s bookmarks bar. Click this when you stumble across an interesting read that you haven’t got time to plough through, and you can read it on the way home from work on your iPhone/iPad. Instapaper doesn’t just save a copy of the page. It strips out the page furniture and advertising, and pops the text and images into an easily digestible page that doesn’t require any zooming. Occasionally that formatting goes a little awry – pages are sometimes stuffed with links or HTML gubbins, or articles are sporadically chopped off before the end – but by and large it does a fine job of discriminating between wheat and chaff. So why the name Instapaper, you may wonder? The Instapaper website also allows you to print out the clutter-free copy, neatly condensing what would normally take a whole sheet of paper for each different article into one continuous, printed batch. Instapaper can also output in Kindle or ePub formats for those who carry an eBook reader with them. Back on the iPhone the Instapaper app comes in two versions: the fully-featured £2.99 app or the gratis Instapaper Free. The paid-for version includes advanced features such as tilt-scrolling, folders and Twitter integration, but although we wouldn’t want to discourage you from rewarding such innovation with a couple of quid of your hard-earned, we’ve never found the free version in the least bit restrictive. Well, my iPhone has arrived, but I can't use it at the moment, because a) it seems impossible to get the sim activated and b) stupid bloody Apple need me to buy a new home computer.
Sometimes Apple really piss me off. Surely there's no good reason the iPhone 4 won't work with Tiger, other than the fact they want me to buy a new mac?

That's not strictly true, Tom. As long as you can get it activated - and you can do this at any machine that's running whatever version of iTunes the iPhone requires - then you can use the phone. Obviously, it doesn't help with getting all the contacts from the Mac to the handset, but once the SIM is activated you can still use the handset. Mark

Yes, thankfully my wife's netbook will activate it. The annoying thing is though, that the version of iTunes it requires does run fine on Tiger, so why it needs Leopard is beyond me.

Well, either there is some obscure tech reason or… For the second post of this day I declare Apple as being evil.
