Got my first commission to build some models for a total stranger yesterday. I punted a quoted price at them, and they said yes.

Was this word-of-mouth from a previous job? Well done, hope it's a fun build

Ta. I suppose it is word-of-mouth in a way. I've built seven railway coaches for a friend, and he suggested I contact the manufacturer of the kits to see if there was any commissioned work about. So I rang them and they said they don't get that many requests for stuff to be built these days, but would pass any on to me. I got an email yesterday, spoke to the client, made a quote and they accepted. I'll have to sort out a portfolio web site now, though I need some photos of previous work and I won't get those for a couple of weeks yet.

I would add make sure that museums have details of what you can do. I know some people via a friend who do work for museums. One is doing something for the Science Museum and another for the British Airways Museum.

Went up The Shard with the family on Tuesday. The weather was pretty good (not a cloud in the sky) and we went up about 20 minutes before sunset so got to watch that as well.
It's such a pity the use of tripods is banned although I can see why. One cheeky scamp had smuggled in a monopod to which he had attached his compact camera so he managed to get some shots unimpeded by the glass.
Definitely worth a visit if you can swallow the price - £24.95 for an advanced ticket. If you want to go it does pay to book in advance as tickets cost an extra £5 'on the door'.

Home after having after show drinks with 3 girls, one of whom was Beatrix Von Bourbon. I'm just bragging really.

After a lovely day with fellow modellers yesterday, I may have another model building commission at some point down the line.

A friend who works for Audi has got us free Iron Man 3 tickets for tomorrow night - I'm liking that particular product-placement
