At this point Marvel's so desperate to tick the demographic boxes that I wouldn't be surprised if Professor X winds up arrested under Operation Yewtree

Is it any bloody wonder they can't get new readers? There's so much convoluted history with characters that they have to bring back previous versions to fix the current ones!

I haven't read many but they're usually really funny, just weird getting into at first because 'he's talking to you', or you're reading his thoughts.

Best to skip to the fights, but the humour's generally good!

Decoding DC Entertainment's 'DC You' Comic Book Relaunch - Spoilers for recent comic runs, read the next link if need be

DC Entertainment Gets Behind New DC Universe Comic Book Slate In A Big Way With “DC YOU” | DC Comics
http://www.dccomics.com/blog/2015/05/19 ... E2%80%9Cdc

Someone finally realised that the comics are impenetrable to even older readers at this point, but these soft reboots are just making things worse. How many times have major characters died in the last few years alone? And the big two actually announce these deaths months ahead of time because everybody knows they won't actually kill off their golden geese. Go Apple with it - a distinct, focused product line that spins out when the opportunity is there.

Start telling self-contained stories again and you can stop having meetings about 6 month reboots! Stop having BS crises to get people to buy 10 different comics - it's never worked yet! Have separate Justice League stories so that you don't fcuk up anything you might have achieved elsewhere! Stop putting 20 minor characters on a page just in case one of them gets tweeted about! And for the love of Christ, if one of your 'star' writers tries to undo all of the above with nothing more than a totally unmapped concept involving time travel/demi-gods/parallel earths/whatever, file it in a drawer and lie to them!

The supreme irony is, the TV writers doing comic adaptations would be the best place to start.

I know, just the latest person to get a go in one of the spare outfits. I gave up a while back, cancelled all my subscriptions. Snyder presented them with some absolutely retarded ideas and they ran with them, possibly out of desperation. They'd twisted the origin stories beyond any recognition and so what followed was inevitable, because they'll have no option but to reboot Batman closer to how he started out. And not just him - half his rogue's gallery have been badly affected.

The thing is, you just know they won't have the balls to cut out Snyder's stuff that started great but became an albatross. My guess is the series will become the equivalent of the duff clones in Alien 4... It's incredibly annoying that Snyder became the new Morrison so quickly, but no wonder either. They gave him not just the entire set of continuity Batman titles, but major aspects of Superman at the same time he was doing American Vampire. And that's just what I know of.

It is all a bit odd. I see what you mean about Morrison - both writers have good ideas that seem to go awry somewhere along the line! However, the Snyder/Capullo Batman is the only DC comic I still avidly read and I hope they both stay on the title for a while though I expect they're both receiving very lucrative offers to go over to Marvel.

When the New 52 was launched Snyder was also writing Swamp Thing (which was OK but got boring after a while) as well as co-writing Batman Eternal, so at least he isn't spreading himself quite as thin...

My issue with Snyder is that he does the bread and butter so well that together with Capullo you've got great stuff. It's only once you get to the wider mythos he jumps the shark. He had great success with the Talons but then that became the story rather than just adding to it. Wildly expanding on origin stories has always been a terrible idea. It needs to be incredibly subtle and somewhat left open if you're gonna do it at all, more Killing Joke-style than TV soaps ffs. That's what recent Bat books have reminded me of - here's family members and circumstances that nobody has mentioned before. Ever. Not in all the decades...

Fantastic Feud: Marvel Pulls Their First Family and The X-Men From 2015 Line-Up Poster - spoilers
http://sciencefiction.com/2015/06/03/fa ... ne-poster/

That's some FAIL right there.

That has to be full-on personal cos it doesn't make any sense otherwise. You can do nothing about the films so why wouldn't you let someone else pay for your publicity? You'll sell more comics, and more importantly for your bottom line, merchandise of every description. All it does is hurt you financially and treat decades-long fans like sh1te.

The notion that you're handing your rivals stories is laughable too - how many films do you wanna name that were massive hits without being a particular story arc?
