The 6 Creepiest Comic Book Characters of All Time | Cracked.com
http://www.cracked.com/article_16230_th ... -time.html

I'd heard that Loeb had totally messed up the Ultimates comics, but that's fcuking hilarious.

It always happens in comics, someone appears with the apparent Midas touch then the house lets them go so utterly mental that they can't even get rid of them or admit their mistake. Loeb, Miller, Morrison, Snyder... It's like the Wachowskis ffs; people are still working with them in case they turn down the next Matrix, even though all evidence points to that being a fluke.

Didn't know about quite a few of those. Apart from the Twins.

And the FAIL continues. I mean, yeah, you totally needed another Hulk. And Wolverine. And Spider-Person. This is your reboot?

Batman 41 was Ok..... it could have been a lot worse. But Snyder has already sown the seeds of a return to normality.

Whatever it is it's too little too late for me. I find it appalling that you already know from the latest reboot statements across comicdom that they don't have any intention of breaking the cycle of ruining major characters like the Joker - how could they when they don't have a better idea than supposed shock stories that go down continuity and creative cul de sacs. For over a decade now the big two haven't had the balls to COMPLETELY start afresh with everyone they've got... It's the only way it's ever gonna work.

I often wonder how many readers are still around from the old days, or if it's just kids who don't know any better now. If I had to guess, the new, very welcome female readership is hiding a lot of decline from the traditional 18+ bloke reader.

I'd also wager the digital market is similar to it's music cousin now in that the comics are more background noise than genuine endeavour, both from the industry and the fans.

Green Arrow to provide pointed critique of Baltimore and Ferguson | Books | The Guardian
http://www.theguardian.com/books/2015/j ... d-ferguson

All for what he's saying, except

Quote:
The TV show Arrow might well send readers to the comic, but they’ll find a very different beast. Percy says: “The show is fun – it’s fine – but we’re doing something very different. The cast and content of the show have zero bearing on what we do with the comic series.”

No, not at all

Marvel seem to be particularly in need of a refresh. I've heard many times that it used to be the case that DC had the better stories and Marvel had the better artwork (which is probably why I gravitated to Marvel) but from what I see nowadays Marvel is just crap for both writing and artwork. Even though Marvel have a very high profile due to the success of their recent films the impetus has not translated to the comics. All they seem to have done is made everything tie in to the Avengers movie and then kept the stories as childish as ever. I quite liked the re-booted Spiderman when Doc Ock was in charge but as soon as Marvel returned to the inevitable status quo it became boring.

'Captain Marvel' Comic Book Series to Be Relaunched With 'Agent Carter' Showrunners - The Hollywood Reporter

I'd said it before, one of the best things they could do is try the TV writers when it comes to comics. It's absolutely pathetic that there's already been three attempts since 2012!

Tbh, sexuality is just another way to sell comics by creating headlines. It's not a natural part of the process just yet, more of a business decision. Same with race and nationality.

So you have Feige saying...

Quote:
"You look at the early comic books of Spider-Man and what was so great about what Stan Lee and Steve Ditko did was they said what if one of the most powerful heroes we have is a high school kid who also has to do homework and isn't a billionaire, or isn't a genius scientist, or isn't a trained assassin, or isn't another scientist who had an accident but is a kid?"

http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/spider- ... r-man-role

... only for Marvel Comics to do this

Peter Parker Will No Longer Be A Hard Luck Loser, Becoming A Powerful Tech Tycoon
http://sciencefiction.com/2015/07/01/pe ... ch-tycoon/

I totally understand that it's time to adjust the origin since the fcuktards have put themselves in that position YET AGAIN, but that does not sound like the answer at all. It seems to nullify everything that made the character so popular in the first place.

I was thinking about this after the Peter Parker/Spiderman thing in one of the other threads. It basically means that whatever's "popular" at the moment influences the comics without taking into consideration the gravity of the situation.
