Err, the XOOM does not come with Flash. Sure it is promised for later, but it could be months away. http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/21/moto ... uary-24th/CC

Maybe. What do you want to bet? I don't think you can offer me anything that I want.

*shrug* there's no accounting for taste. I'm obviously more sceptical than you. I base my opinion on them saying it would be cheaper than the iPad (it isn't) and that it'd have Flash at launch (it hasn't) so I'm taking any further claims they make about what it may or may not have in the future with a pinch of salt. If it does have Flash at EU launch well, well done to them. But given their track record I don't think we can take is as gospel that they'll hit their targets. Jon

Brilliant! iPad 2 has Samsung fixated on "inadequate" aspects of new Galaxy Tabhttp://arstechnica.com/gadgets/news/201 ... ipad-2.ars

Both CPW and PCworld have ability to play flash on their Xoom features lists so they must be pretty confident.

I would counter that means nothing. Anyone can cut and paste from a features list, even if it turns out to be wrong. You ought to see some of the rubbish they stick under Macs!

Funny thing is, Jobs was fixated on the competition at the iPad 2 launch in a slightly 'doth protest too much' way

I saw my first iPad last night. I don't think I've really fully appreciated the retina screen before as the visible pixels really put me off. A retina display that size though would be hugely expensive.

It's something they never did when they were just a Mac business but they do seem to do it a lot with their iPhone/iPad stuff. The original iPhone launch conference could basically be summed up as "everyone else's phones are [LIFTED], here's ours that isn't." Having said that, he only really talked about the competition at the beginning of the iPad 2 announcement, once they actually brought the thing out they pretty much kept it the focus of attention. Any advertising exec would tell you it's best to talk down the competition then talk up your offering, rather than vice versa or mixing the two together. And also, you have to say, the marketing on the Galaxy Tab and Xoom so far has been basically 'Our tablet is better than the iPad because...' Jon

I understand that he has to defend his products but the way he does it is ridiculous. He dismissed Android phones and now they outsell iphones. Now he is laughing off android tablets and it will leave him with an egg on his face again. He reminds me of Comical Ali: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMqU8vE65g8

Egg? I don't think Steve ever said that Android will never be popular. I could be wrong. Got a quote in mind? CC

I don't have a direct quote, I don't follow what he says that closely but I know how he can go on and on about one negative aspect of android OS saying how much better iphone is. I remember him pointing how very few apps android has and how fragmented the platform is. Same with flash inefficiencies, 7" tablets, "only 100 apps for android tablets" rubbish...
