i use tree style tab which places the tab bar on the left side of the browser and i just double click anywhere within the tab bar to open a new tab this add-on also has the new tab button at the bottom of all open tabs so its always in the same location ...

That doesn't work for me unless I can see the menu bar.

Whilst I'm on the subject of tabs I like that performing a search automatically opens a new tab. However if you perform that exact same search again it uses the current tab. Either do it or don't!

in the address bar place - about:config move down to this script change from 'false' to 'true'

I have that setting, it just seems that it doesn't work consistently, or how I would expect it too more likely.

if using google on the search page hit settings and mark open all links in a new window save settings and see if that is what you require ...
