Everyone is talking in terms of single constituencies, but one of the points of the No campaign is the risk of more coalition governments.

Yes, in each constituency the preferred, or the least objectionable party/candidate gets in with a majority vote (one way or another) but the increased number of MPs elected for the less popular parties increases the likelihood of no single party having an over-all majority.

The result is a hung parliament, a probable coalition and everyone gets a government that nobody wants.

This is just something that I haven't noticed mention of (too much) while we dwell on the issue of single constituencies.

It does seem as though there is no easy answer to the issue. Although people have questioned why we don't have PR, I believe that while fair, it works out even worse!

The experts have said that it would not have changed the results of any of the last 4 elections. In fact in 1997 Labour would have had an even bigger majority than they did.

I'm the 'Will not vote' at the moment ;) , put it this way, if I could tick 'None of the above' I'd do just that...

Your votes are selected by AV anyway. ;)

None of the above = no. The proposal is whether we adopt AV, not whether AV is better or worse than FPTP.

I knew I should have typed 'relative to NI', laziness won out...

Well, I've voted. The referendum-dum thingy, well, that was easy.

In the local election, for the first time ever in my entire voting career, I have spoiled my ballot. A choice of one Neo-Tory (Labour) and two Tories, one of whom I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw him, was no choice at all as far as I was concerned.

I voted a few weeks back - postal.

Choice of 2 Tories or 2 Libs - that was it

No Labour candidates stood and no others either - quite surprised.

This is a good read.

Clears up some misconceptions formed by mis-leading anti-AV slogans.

Oh god, I hope this forum poll doesn't reflect the national vote!

I hope that it does. I want change, even if this is just a step towards full PR.

Status Quo is boring. Both in general and musically.

Recent opinion polls certainly don't match ours. But I can wish. :D

This thing is that people here are probably more intelligent than in the population in general.
