I was a hater, but I've been amazed at how well they've pulled this off. If you think this Olympics has been badly managed or a failure, then you must have an amazing ability to ignore facts.

Seriously, I think you need to rethink your stance on this one!

Anyone I know who's attended have only two criticisms of their experience - the cost of things inside the park, and the McDonalds dominance of the food outlets.
That's been about it, and honestly, you can level the same accusations at pretty much any venue these days.

i have to post this even if it is a bit off topic ...

Effect on UK economy may not last long, Sir Mervyn King warns

Britain's economy has shrunk for the past three quarters and writing in the Mail on Sunday, the governor said that among the lessons from the games was that the success of the economy in the future depended on actions taken now, including forcing banks to erect a ringfence between their high street operations and their investment banks.

the Daily Mail

The interview was actually in The Mail On Sunday (I was at my parents helping with some DIY yesterday and they buy it). Different paper with a different editorial team. Not quite the same reputation for 'making [LIFTED] up'. Although I'm not sure about Peter Hitchens.

To be fair, he was being paid to do it. I rather doubt he'd do it for free.

Not a bad idea at all, actually.

My wife and her mum went up to London last week and were very apprehensive about it because of the Olympics. But I told them it would be all right and it was they were amazed how quiet it was compared to the usual mayhem. They talked to a few people in the shoo and they said it has been like it all the time that Olympics is on.
This s a purely anecdotal account and YMMV but it does tie in with the reports about the buisness impact away from the Olympic venues and what Athens suffered as well.

+1

Not that I would have attended but, having followed much of the coverage on TV, I'd say they've pulled it off pretty well. And yes, I know the beeb haven't been covering the negative stories as much as the positive ones, but that's no different to editorial slant in a newspaper.

The word 'unfortunately' works on the end of that, in multiple ways.
