Police detective on the phone: "I have some amazing news for you [pause to raise mother's hopes of her son being found safe], we believe your son is still alive!" *emotional music* *relief in her voice*
This is 20 seconds after the detective found out that said son is being kept alive to be systematically amputated and tortured, with his body parts distributed around the city and they've no idea where he is, no evidence that he is still alive, but know he is still being held by his serial killing captor.
But still, amazing news!
Great police work. Telephone his mother immediately, if you're wrong you can always telephone her again half an hour later "nope, yeah sorry, no he really is dead, whoops-a-daisy, my bad."
What a load of s**te .
I can live without close up shots of everyday objects being cut up violently every 10 minutes as well, that got old very quickly. Psyche! bet you thought that was a person being stabbed, jk, just a pumpkin being carved!

If you want an example of a program that's full of sh*t then watch Numb3rs. I actually quite like the show but, being someone who knows maths and physics, I have seen so many ludicrous theories and formulae. Like someone trying to work out the dispersal area of radioactive fallout. He scribbles a few lines of chalk on a black board and comes up with a number along the lines of 10,000 square metres area. Then the other guy says, "How about if you don't account for the rain as it probably won't rain over the next few days". So he turns around for 5 seconds and then says "That makes it closer to 25,000 square metres or a couple of blocks". That was one of the more "sensible" mutterings I heard.

Lots of shows are full of it in one way or another. Especially hour long procedurals.
But only seeing that, is pedantry of the highest order.
Dexter has a fascinating central character, brilliant arc storytelling and masses of suspense. It's a top 10 show for me, maybe top 5.

I found him to be so unrealistic and two dimensional, he's more of a storytelling gimmick than an enigmatic character I want to get to know. And the whole backstory of his dad training him to "channel" his psychopathic urge to kill to "do good" is real GCSE creative writing stuff. Terrible acting and clichéd characters, I just haven't seen anywhere near enough to warrant further viewing, if you're going to have "fun" violence, you need a maturity of writing and realism to avoid just being torture porn, Dexter is just too close to my absolute least favourite genre of film.

How many series have you watched? They are all very different & to be honest the violence is minimal. I've certainly seen a lot worse. I love it.

Nearly finished Jimmy's Forest on More4. Really enjoyable and educational if you like nature.

You might want to try again as so much happens after the first series. Up to you *shrugs*

Treme is a FANTASTIC show, but you and Caz are never gonna agree, coz it's like The Wire But only 4-5 eps explains a lot. Dexter takes a while to hit it's stride (as do most of the best "arc" shows).

Am I being picked on? lol. Not been watching Treme so you're right there but I did catch an episode & it wasn't my thing. Give Dexter another chance Leeds one. Please.

So, a friend suggested I try on Californication for size. Certainly not for everyone, but I'm loving it.

Why did I wait so long to watch Californication? Nearing the end of S1, and I'm loving it. Great writing.
